With consent, it's murder, without, it's medicine.

I believe this was Kevorkian's ultimate point about the hypocrisy of these laws.

If a person begs for death, and is helped, then it's murder. But if a person goes into a coma, anyone can pull the plug on them, no problem. You don't even have to be "terminal" and certainly not in any pain.

Somehow it's justified that if a person is unconscious others can make the decision to kill them. But if you're completely conscious, completely sane, oh and you need a psych eval, and you need to take 100 different medicines, and you need approval from a flock of doctors, oh and god forbid you do it against your spouse's consent, and you need this and that and this and that THEN you can "choose" to commit suicide with someone providing the poison, but if they turn the nozel, MURDER. Bullsh!t.

The government and the people have developed a corrupted and clearly irrational and contradictory concept of free will. At some point people have decided that life isn't a right, it's government mandated privilege. The government can kill you, you can't kill yourself without permission.

For the most part, the reason is simply because of religion. If you willingly kill yourself, you'll "go to Hell", and it's clear that the government doesn't want to leave any room for its citizens to have a different belief.

It's painfully obvious that the government collectively believes in an ecumenical god, and that will always influence policy (or at least attempt to).

All of these stupid debates and arguments and protests about abortions or vasectomies or euthanasia can be responded to with one thing: population control. But it's certainly not something that hardly ANYONE ever thinks about.

"You need to be Robin Shyamalan."

Exactly, it's the religious right who want everyone to suffer.

It's the same evangelical right that's against contraception and abortions all the while hypocritically professing "less government" and "freedom".

Republicans/Conservatives don't exist anymore. Do NOT listen to their *beep* Just look at the actual laws and policies they're trying to pass. They want to create a Christian corporatist state.

OK calm down anti-religious bigots.

"But if a person goes into a coma, anyone can pull the plug on them, no problem."
This statement is patently false. Consider the Terry Schiavo incident. That situation defines the word 'problem'. Kevorkian was a master of the overstatement as is Pacino in delivering it.

If you do not believe in Christianity then go ahead, travel to Oregon and kill yourself. Nothing will happen to you since you don't believe in a God. What's the big deal.
Your true nature is rendered naked with the population control statement. You like the idea of thinning the herd. Scary position. Exactly which breed of humans would you like to kill off today. Huh. Whites, blacks, Asians, males, females, children, adults, babies, the unborn (oh wait we already do that.) Who decides, you! Or you, or you?!

As an apologist turned authority I don't defend my comments because I am always right.

Novimovieman,

Why does this automatically turn into a debate about "exterminating" a certain kind of race? All that we are talking about is giving people the right to die if they want to. What is everybody's obsession about keeping people alive who don't want to be?

Consider the Terry Schiavo incident. That situation defines the word 'problem'.

Terry Schiavo's case doesn't disprove my point, it proves it. The argument of killing her was between her husband and her parents. Everyday citizens. It was settled by a court decision to go with the husband. Not doctors, and no due process. Just an argument about who gets to decide whether to kill her, her parents or her husband. And that's perfectly acceptable. While if Terry herself were awake and chose death, then it would be murder.

So her parents or husband can order her death, but she can't. That's my point.

And douche, don't lump me in with anyone else. Have a subject break when you go off about genocide.
