Anyone See the Extended Edition?

I had always passed it on Netflix because I thought it was all 3 movies they called a "series".

It's actually just the first movie stretched into three 90 minute segments. That's 2 whole extra hours. Unfortunately, I just rewatched the short version of the first movie the other day. So it's a bit soon to re-rewatch it.

So, my question is, Is it worth it to watch the extended cut someday, considering I've seen the 2.5 hour version twice, and know the conclusion? Also, if I were to recommend this movie to someone who never saw it, should I recommend the short version, or the long version?

I've read the novels and saw all the movie versions and TV versions. I don't know about any 270 minutes version of the first story. Isn't that including repeats & ads?

For me, the extended-for-TV version is better than the 2009 film. Okay, you'll miss the 2.35 screen and get a 1.85 widescreen instead, but it's 180 minutes of better storytelling.

I like the Swedish Millennium films better as a TV series: nine hours of wonderful Salander/Blomqvist adventures, taking the time to tell a good tale.

So if you recommend it to someone who has enough attention span for a good story, I'd say recommend any long version.

Thanks for responding. I'll recommend the long version. However, if I do rewatch it again, which I'm sure I will eventually, I probably won't watch the long version. I'm sure it's a lot of misdirection about finding the killer. And since I already know who the (living) bad guy is, it would be a waste.

It had been several years since I saw this movie, I wish I knew about the extended version before I watched the original cut. The only reason I figured out that there was such an extended version is because I was going to rewatch the second movie (I've seen all three before), when I clicked on what Netflix has listed as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, I assumed it was all 3 movies. Which is a reasonable conclusion to draw, I think. They should bill it as the "Extended Cut" or something.

The film was shot in Super-35 so the TV version isn't cropped, just re-framed.

The extended version is basically 3 3-h0ur movies each split into 1 1/2 hour segments. I just watched the first "episode" and was surprised how true Fincher stayed to the story. I liked Noomi's reaction to the Tubeway attack more that Rooney's, but I liked Rooney's depiction of the Rape/Blackmail scenes, and the scene in the elevator with Bjurman shows that he's scared *beep* of her. That little tidbit was added to the Fincher version but it was well put.

I really enjoyed both the original and the remake. I think Fincher took great care to preserve the story. But it has more details in the original extended version- Explains why Mikael doesn't drive and it even explains the scene at the end of the Fincher version where she buys him a Motorcycle vest, I didn't know why she had done that but the original explains that he was also a rider. The remake has the Hollywood stamp on the production, which makes it appear larger than life, but the original is a fierce, engaging story. It's actually more accessible, but the remake has some great things.
