Subtitles or dubbed?

Just curious, I haven't watch a foreign language film in a while. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions or preference. Should I watch it with the subtitles or watch it dubbed in English? Thanks.

reply

Always better to watch in the original language IMO.

Agreed. I like hearing foreign tongue, and Swedish is actually a cool sounding language. Very efficient. Actually sounds like it would be a fairly easy language to learn.

Oh, you should stay away from dubbed films at all costs; in my opinion they can literally ruin the entire experience of watching something. You're no longer watching the fully realised performances of the actual actors (how are you supposed to judge Rapace's role, for example, when half of her performance is missing?), and the film is no longer in its true, original and intended state. F-ck that sh-t.

Unless you have eyesight issues or dyslexia or whatever, always go for the subtitled versions.

The Swedish is not to be missed with how they accent certain syllables. Swedish is a Germanic language, so if you know some German you'll be able to catch some of the dialogue as it's spoken. Henrik Vanger speaks almost exclusively German. BTW - don't tell a Swede that their language is Germanic. You can also pick up some words with Latin and Greek origins such as: mi familia, infarct.

i only speak English myself and i definitely prefer original spoken language with subtitles.

Subtitles is a lot better, so i'd always go for subtitles.
However, saying that, i watched it at 2am and knew i would be too tired to read and process the subtitles, so i tried dubbed so see what it would be like. It was alright. It didn't ruin the movie for me, but i felt like i had cheated in a way.

Definitely subtitles, it's a film that pays to pay attention to the nuances of the original voices.

Subtitled is generally better most of the time when its dubbed they cheap out on it and do a poor job but it can be done well
