confused (spoilers)

I just watched the movie tonight and did not read the book. There was one scene of Trixie buying the drugs, and that the mother knew. Was it some kind of sex drug that she gave to Jason? I gained the impression that Trixie set him up for rape charges or to have sex with her. If she gave him a sex drug, then Jason wouldn't be able to stop.

I didn't care for the end of the film - where life goes on, and oh well, this is all part of what parents have to deal with with teenagers.

yeah I hated that they made him a rapist too, and nobody was punished not even for his death! It was like the fact that they made him the bad guy excused the entire family of ruining his life as well. He didn't deserve to die no matter what, in my opinion, and yet nobody was charged for it. They might as well have left it a suicide.

I know that, I realize that the movie made it not anyone's fault and an accident and I was saying that I did not like that.

Thanks, Thom. Frankly, they should have stuck to the book. It is a more interesting angle if they had been more ambiguous if it was rape or not. And what about how high Jason was? Doesn't that count for anything?

Bottom line - two teenagers high as kites who had sex before. If it went by the book, where there was no scene of her resisting or saying no, then it would be about girl upset because her boyfriend broke up with her. That would have probably been more relevant and certainly would have been more interesting. Teenage girls do lose their minds over their boyfriends. And they needed to put that under the spotlight. Especially considering the author's speech after the movie.

The problem with Lifetime movies they want their movies to be simply black or white and can't deal with the grey area in between. That's why usually Lifetime movies are a waste of time.

How is it an accident?? She pushed him down, which led to him grabbing onto the ledge and her hand. She changed her mind too late, much like her daughter!

Also, while it can be argued it was rape, I really think if there were categories of rape this would be borderline non-rape. I know this reads terribly, yet she initiated and did go out of her way to get him into bed, and just changed her mind because he said friends with bens. Its akin to having sex when you can' really be arsed, he didn't hit her or play rough, nor was it different than their regular sex according to the movie. Her emotional trauma was because of his lack of commitment, not the sex.
