Based on Nick Cave?

Do you think Adam Goldberg's character is based off of Nick Cave? My evidence is from the song he did at the end that had no notes on the page and they just sat there quiet, which is something Nick Cave did, and second, the idea of the girl's ridiculous pants making different noises, which I think would come from Cave's new exhibit of "soundsuits," suits of clothing that make noise, and can be manipulated to make music. When I was watching the movie it seemed a bit too similar to be a coincidence.

his character and much of the unorthodox ideals and approaches he takes could be based-on or inspired by any number of non-traditional musicians. John Zorn, Mike Patton, Fred Frith, or Frank Zappa ya think?

Exactly. These approaches and methods are nothing new so I don't think it was inspired by a singular artist, but rather these types of avant-garde/experimental artists in general.

I was thinking John Cale of The Velvet Underground, and producer of The Stooges, and many other wonderful creations.

Forty years ago this was considered 'Cutting Edge, Daring, and Avant Garde', but these days, his influence might be found in Republican Party commercials. What is 'The Bee's Knees' today, is only 'Business as Usual' decades in the future. Sick, yet true.

no, not nick cave. and no, not john cale. this was actually a direct ripoff of john cage's 4'33"

Indeed - I presumed the poster had meant John Cage from the apparent 4'33" reference, but was confused because I believe Nick Cave has created the mentioned soundsuits. Hmmm...

Nick Cave who made the "soundsuits" is an African-American multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. He is not the Nick Cave from Australia.

That is a good clarification. I'm surprised at how long it took someone to mention the obvious John Cage reference.
