Hmmm... (*Spoilers*)

So I was an avid fan of "Prison Break" while it was running; however, I never did watch "The Final Break" until today after sitting for the last couple of weeks and re-watching all 4 seasons. I'm not sure how I feel about "The Final Break"... I think I liked it much better when I thought Michael had died because of his brain tumor (which is what I assumed he died of as of the series finale episode). All this "movie" did was open up a can of worms into the whole "Michael's not really dead" campaign, whereas if he had just died from the tumor, there wouldn't be much steam to that argument.

I did like that we got to see what became of Gretchen. I know she went to prison after getting shot in the gut in season 4, and I was just surprised that they didn't show what became of her in the series finale... I mean, they showed what happened to Don Self, but not Gretchen? Seriously though. LoL! And it was kinda disappointing to not see LJ at least ONCE some time in the finale or in this "Final Break," but at least they mentioned his whereabouts in the series finale, so I guess I can let that go.

I dunno... I guess I just could've gone without this "Final Break" thing and just leave things up to my imagination for what happened in series finale. However, at least we now know how Sara got that scar on her shoulder that the director made damn sure we saw and noticed in the series finale, but again, it's something I could've done without.

It also annoyed me to NO end in Michael's video to Link and Sara that he kept referring to his SINGULAR child as "their" and "them". Being an English major and a soon to be English teacher, that is a problem that AMATEUR writers run into when they don't want to go back and change their sentences so that everything agrees (verbs, pronouns, etc.), and I would think that the writers of this show would've caught that mistake, and I also think Wentworth Miller would've caught it being an English major himself from freakin' PRINCETON! If you don't want to refer to the child as "it" because that sounds insensitive, then go back and rewrite the sentence and use words like "kid," "child," "baby," or "my child."

But this then also fed fuel to "Michael's not dead" fire, but for those of us who are as anal retentive about basic speech as I am, it just sounded stupid and made the writers seem lazy. Oh well. I enjoyed this show immensely and I really do miss it, but I also could've done without "The Final Break."

P.S. Was this shot during the "regular" season? Like, was it filmed before they filmed the finale and they just ended up not being able to air 24 episodes, so they cut 2 out and then these became "The Final Break"?

It was shot during the regular season and they just decided not to air it. I think because it was kind of lame. Why they ever released it is beyond me. I mean, I hated that he died in the end, but liked it being left to the tumor in the original ending.

Also, the "their" thing is something people just do when they're not sure of what pronoun to use. In Chasing Amy once character actually calls out another character for doing it saying something like "you're playing the pronoun game". I did find it very distracting, though. Couldn't he have just said "the baby" or something to that effect?

Maybe the reason the producers never aired this is because of the whole "Micheal's not dead" crap. I mean, we saw his grave in the original ending. It never even crossed my mind that he could still be alive. I'm just going to think he's dead and move on. It may have pissed me off, but that's the way it ended. I guess I'll just have to live with the disappointment. :P

It was my understanding that these were two episodes that were previously un-aired during the last season. I am happy that they released this separately from the last season DVD and didn't air these two episodes because they were a turn off to me. Sara getting sent to prison was laughable. It felt like they were really reaching with that arc and it was so fast paced (not that the show wasn't fast paced but when you think about it, it was a lot to take in for an hour and a half)

I personally liked the ending they showed on television because I believed Michael died peacefully (of course I don't know if you can peacefully pass away from a brain tumor but it was nice to think that he had Link and Sara by his side) and it breaks my heart that I can't have that in my head anymore, lol. I just hate that he had to die in such a gruesome way (although it was nice that he sacrificed himself for Sara).
