What album does Carl's Dad Save?

I usually can identify an album cover but I couldn't figure out what album Carl's dad saved when the ship was sinking. Can anybody help?

reply

Not positive, but I THINK it might be The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's....". Just a guess.

OOPS! Sorry, I was WRONG! Another poster has identified it.

The 5000 Spirits Or The Layers Of The Onion by Incredible String Band

Yep, ISB

That scene seemed so pointless. It lasts about three minutes as he struggles to find it in the box so I assumed inside the album would be something relevant to the kid and his parents, maybe a photo of the dad holding him as a baby or something. But no, it was just to set up a literal throwaway gag of Ifans chucking it away and calling it a bad album...

I didn't expect it to be anything but what it was in the box. This is someone who's world is music as he pretty much is in hiding from the world unless he's playing music on air.. I felt that came across pretty strongly when he was so absorbed in his record that he didn't realized the ship was sinking. If it had been anything other than albums I wouldn't have understood it. He never carried on about personal relationships so why would suddenly a family photo carry such relevance? I think the scene carried on to give him some character development finally.. I tried my hardest to see what the album was, I had a feeling it was one that may not have been mainstream and I was right. Plus this was all happening the year I was born and my music knowledge doesn't really start until late 60's...

reply

This. It reinforced how much music meant to him.

Plus I don't think that it was Ifans that threw the record back in - it was Nick Frost, wasn't it?

reply

It was the funniest scene in the movie.
