So Why Did Rouke Fair Better ?

So mickey roukre for the Wrestler won every award going including golden globe, Bafta etc and even nominated for a best actor oscar yet jcvd got nothing, how is this possible ?

reply

Because the Wrestler was good. Mickey Rourke played the guy he's become: a dramatic guy, with a less then worthy life. He IS that guy.

JCVD plays a guy the wat he sees himself: An actor that has fallen from grace. His acting has always been a bit cheesy and the dude is way too old to keep doing what he's known for.

The wrestler in my opinion was a way better movie. I do not understand the high rating on JCVD, while the wrestler deserved it's even higher rating. Even more impressive as the estimate budget for JCVD is $10M to MR's The Wrestler at $6M.

In the end, there is more to a film than an actor or story. To complete entourage makes it possible to win prices or get forgotten.

1. But JCVD Was Also Good :L
2. JCVD was playing the guy he has become too :L
3. They were both playing dramatic people with less than worthy lives, i seen jcvd live and he is also that guy.
4. Both of their acting has been cheesy that whats make both films such a revelation and so JCVD is too old yet Rourke ain't, the guy is 61 years old and JCVD is just approaching 50 ever seen double team rourke faired worst in every aspect in that film to jcvd and that was when JCVD was bad, they are both action stars.
5. The Wrestler is a better movie granted but that does not mean it is more enjoyable i prefer JCVD its just more fun to watch.
6. I agree that on 6 million that is really impressive and i never knew that.
7. I don't believe that, they are both good films but how good the films is not applicable to what we are talking about its the performance of the actor which are equal in amount but JCVD shows more emotion and rourke even when losing his daughter seems flat face and just not bothered whilst jcvd also had that amazing monologue, the wrestler had a better cast and crew, better more famous director and was advertised well and shown in cinemas whilst JCVD was not also the language of english in the wrestler and french in jcvd showing that these awards are all popularity and not talent.

1. I thought The Wrestler was better.
2. That was the point I was trying to make: JCvD played the guy, MR was the guy.
3. Didn't meet either of them. I maybe mistaken here, but I thought JCvD wanted to do something else then what he is always doing, while MR just was at a dead point in his life.
4. Didn't see Double Team. I believe both actors were decent performers at least in their haydays.
5. You are totally in your right to like JCVD over The Wrestler. I didn't like both that much, but thought The Wrestler was the better movie. That's why I said that in reply why that movie won all the prizes.
6. I had to look it up, too. It was actually a lousy point to make in this argument. I apologize...
7. You might have a point on the language thing. The rest is pretty much subjective. And so your opinion is as good as anyones. As is mine.

I Thought both performances were great but the monologue and performance overall makes jcvds performance eclipse rourkes was also good i just believe that rourke got picked because of the films popularity whilst jcvd was overlooked like his movie just saying the board find something to hone and and stick to it rather than looking for talent in which i believe jcvd should have gotten more awards like a bafta nod at least etc

I don't understand what you slabbed in that post. Please try and use comma's, periods, capitols.

even without them i thought its easy enough to understand

No. It's much easier on readers if you use correct punctuation and grammar, though I understand there are posters contributing, whose English may be their second or third language.

As to your original question. The Wrestler is an American film and could naturally be expected to do better in North America. JCVD is a Belgian film, largely sub-titled and didn't have anywhere near the same sort of distribution in North America, as The Wrestler. So it kind of follows that it's less likely to figure as strongly in American awards, despite it being critically well received.🐭
