BIG DISAPPOINTMENT (SPOILERS)

Please prove me wrong, or tell me what's so special about this film to deserve all this hype and for what? a half assed cheap twist easily predictable from the get go (his being sea sick, the patient who drawned her kids).
I can't deny the atmospheric aspect of the film but it suffered some very bad editing which was shocking given that it was made by one of the most highly esteemed filmmakers of Hollywood.
Also, did anyone notice the big goof about that patient pretending to hold a glass of water, except her hand was empty.
I can go on and on, I have been putting off this film for so long and once I sat for it I was underwhelmed.
I can't say I enjoyed it.

The glass of water wasn’t a goof, it was entirely deliberate. Andrew blanks out water because it reminds him of the drowning.

The ‘twist’ is telegraphed heavily throughout the film, it’s not supposed to be some kind of mind-blowing surprise. The real revelation is the horror of what occurred to make Andrew become Teddy, and the heart of the film is the question ‘is it better to live as a monster or die as a good man?’

Andrew chooses to be lobotomised because, even though he’s cured, he can’t live with his traumatic guilt.

The ‘bad editing’ is actually highly expressive and deliberate editing, designed to underline the artifice of everything we’re seeing because it is all a role-play. It is also blended with hallucinations and dreams, and Andrew’s crumbling psyche.

Everything about the film is top-level, I suggest you rewatch it knowing the truth, it gets better and better.
