Just saw it...fantastic! (no spoilers)

My favorite movie of the year so far -- it was really brilliant. Every move was thought out and executed well, from the acting to the directing to the editing. It was also a great visual film, I'd say the DP has quite a bit of talent! Highly encourage anyone to see it. Just wish it was a bit longer! I didn't want it to end.

I loved everything about the film, too, but I thought it was just the right length. It said what it needed to say in the time it needed to say it.

I did too Ambrosia, just making a slight joke that I was sad when it ended...it was too good!

After seeing the massively over sold and over hyped Wolverine this little film was an absolute joy.

The wonderful cast of British stars, Harry Andrews (He'll Forever be Grouty in Porridge for me), Leslie Phillips (Ding Dong) and of course Thelma Barlow (Well I dont really know Rita) made this a jem of a movie.

Caine has rarely been been better than he was in this.

It's nice to see the positive comments on this board. I totally agree -- best movie I've seen this year, although unfortunately that's not saying a whole lot. There has been an overabundance of crap this year. Still, a great little film, with arguably Caine's best performance.

Emotional, funny, and a wee bit educational.

Agree on all sides Ken...but don't worry, we're still in the aftermath of post-Oscar season. The rest of the great movies should be coming around September (so cross your fingers!).

We do sometimes seem to be swamped with blockbusters that have had too much money spent on them or films that are solely aimed at kids, but I think we get enough gems to make the waiting worthwhile, but then I'm ever the optimist!

Saw this movie over the weekend at the Phoenix in North London. I can't remember being so moved by a movie. Caine's performance is absolutely flawless as is the entire cast. Strangely I didn't find myself as moved by the more obvious sentimental moments, it was the more subtle, unspoken moments.

I can't say enough good things about the film. It didn't pull any punches when it came to the subject matter, no easy endings, no miracle cures. It gave us simple, sad, beautiful truth. Amazing.

I think this in film and in Harry Brown Caine puts in great performances that are right up there with his best.

Is Anybody There? really touched me, there were lots nice touches here and there, the messages from the film are communicated in a subtle non-suffocating way that lets you sit back and simply enjoy the journey the film takes you on with bits comedy and bits that prompt reflection along the way.

I particularly liked the scene from Back to the Future, which was basically a message to Edward from Clarence (at least that's how I interpreted it) which was a master stroke I thought, particularly as Edward and his dad are patching things up and are in the cinema together.

Finall when considering not just the Director, cast and locations I think when we look at the script and how overall style of the film there is something quite quintessentially British about it that makes it, to me, unique.

It was a representation of their friendship, Marty was saying goodbye to the Doc shows the parting of Clarence and Edward since he died whilst Edward saw the film with his dad. I enjoyed the fact that the film had content which was potrayed greatly. The way they showed Clarence to be in limbo (purgatory), in a sense he was dead so Edward did make contact and learnt things from Clarence. Since Clarence passed on his magic skills to Edward and was 'forgiven' by his ex - wife, he was able to move on into death. Mise en scene played a part with Clarence being in purgatory as though out the film he wears black, a symbol of death.
