yeah, I know they're still filming and stuff and a release will be far from now. But any close idea when?

shareI went here: www.16tolifethemovie.org/blog/ and clicked on the "Festivals/Events" button. At the moment, the only future screening it lists is an August 29th festival showing in Iowa City, IA.
In general, it seems that 16 to Life is making the rounds of film festivals. These aren't the prestige festivals like Cannes or Sundance, which are more likely to bring out the movers and shakers of the entertainment industry. This probably means it will take a bit of luck for the film to get picked up by a distributor that will give it a significant theatrical release. Direct-to-video distribution seems more likely. Of course, that's mere speculation on my part.
On September 3, the movie will also be screened at Elkader Cinema at 4 p.m. (http://www.elkadercinema.com, although there is no info on the site at the moment) and the Elkader Opera House at 7:30 p.m. (http://www.elkaderoperahouse.com does have info). You can buy advance tickets for the Opera House screening but not for the Cinema.
Elkader is about 25 minutes south of McGregor, IA, where much of the film was shot. A young woman, Gabrielle McNally, who had a small speaking role in the film, is from nearby Luana, IA.

We don't know where you live, but "16 to Life" will have a small Canadian theatrical release and a small US theatrical release in the spring.
US will be in the midwest towns that have requested it.

It's gotten wide release in Canada and limited release starting in Fall 2010 in the U.S.
