Direct to DVD Release ??

Kinda weird to see this film direct to DVD... here in Canada we still have giant posters for this film in our theaters and I just saw the DVD release for february 2nd, 2010 at DarkHorizons... how can a ''big'' film like this didn't receive a theatrical release ? It dosen't stars Johnny Depp or a Twilight actor ??

I'm not sure about this. I wasn't aware that it was already out until I saw it on a list of bombs from 2009.

But it probably wasn't a very good film. People often don't realize the cost of putting a film in theaters. They usually look at what it cost to make and then assume if they earn more than that the film was profitable.

When a film earns a lot of money at the box office that doesn't mean the studio gets all of the money. A significant portion of that money goes to theater operators and investors. Tack on a large marketing campaign which is usually in the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars. And it becomes very expensive to put a film into theaters.

If the film was bad, few people would pay to see it. Giving it a wide release would cost a lot and diminish whatever it made with a small release. A major theatrical release of a bad film would also hurt DVD sales. So a wide release was probably deemed to be a bad move financially.

PS: This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R didn't exist.

It was released in Oct or Nov in Canada (can't remember which month I saw it). It was partially filmed in Nova Scotia (i worked on one scene in it). It didn't make much a box office splash but It'll probably make some money in rental. Yes, it wasn't great but it also didn't seem to have much of a promotional budget either.
For the record, Hilary was awesome on set. Really nice, down to earth and professional.
