Amelia's picture quality

I watched Blu-ray versions of Amelia last night, and Top Gun tonight. So why was the PQ of the latter, filmed in 1986, better than that of Amelia, filmed in 2009? The images, from closeups to distance shots, were sharper and more detailed in Top Gun. I've noticed this with quite a few new releases. What has changed about movie cinematography so that it is inferior to that of 10-20 years ago??
