You ungrateful WOMAN!

So Kirk is angry and you yells "You ungrateful WOMAN!". I'm sorry but it came off as weak and unconvincing. You'd think if he is trying to convey anger he'd call her a b!tch. Now I know it's a Christian movie and all, but wouldn't you rather a more realistic approach at someone finding their god(s)?

reply

Not everyone talks like you.

reply

Oh come on, dont pawn that off on me. The whole deal is Caleb isn't a Christian until the end of the movie. So before his wonderful journey into the world of Christianity he is a normal guy. And normal adults express anger with adult words. Let's face it, if he would've said "You ungrateful B!TCH!" that would've flowed better and have been more realistic than screaming "WOMAN". The lined was delivered poorly because it seemed so forced and out of place.

reply

Even non-Christians choose to not use language like that. Many people who are not Christians believe that vulgar language is the sign of a lazy, uneducated mind.

And it's not true that Caleb wasn't a Christian until the end of the movie. First off, he makes his commitment around the middle of the film. Second, before that, it's obvious that Caleb does retain some of the values of his Christian upbringing, as he details when he and his dad are talking.

Finally, the only reason the line seems wrong to you is because of what you are used to. For example, I am used to people pronouncing "ask" the way it is spelled. When I hear people pronounce it like "ax," it seems extremely unnatural to me, though it obviously is not unnatural to them.

reply

Hear here jinx!
I became a Christian at 18, through my own volition, no one in my family is a Christian. As a non-Christian teenager, I never felt the need to use bad words to express myself, even when angry. The line sounds completely credible to me.

"It does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty."

reply

Blah blah blah, sanctimonious dribble, blah blah blah. Vulgar language is the fruit of adult dialect. Save that holier than thou for, well, Jesus!

reply

there are plenty of people out there who do not use curse words who are not christian.

And your point is?

reply

I agree with you. I believe in God but I also think it would have been more authentic if Caleb called her a b!tch.

reply

Exactly! Profanity is not the way everybody talks, especially in a marriage. Calling your wife a bitch during an argument does no good.

Nobody talks like Kirk Cameron did in that scene.

You have to be careful on these boards. There are people who believe that this film is perfect in every way, and that it is acted better than any Oscar winning drama, directed with a style that would shame Welles, Spielberg or D.W Griffith. The cinematography is impeccable, the script is incredible, and would shame Shakespeare. The content, of course, cannot even be criticized by anyone human as God himself had a hand in this film.

Gee, lie much?

Of course, and this is 100% factual, you have people like uther here who think this is the worst movie ever made - worse than "Plan 9 from Outer Space," in fact - and that it has absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever. They believe that the people who've seen it believe everything he wrote (they don't).

In reality, their hatred for this movie is simply an extension of their visceral hatred towards Christians in general and specifically conservative evangelical Christians. To them, this hatred justifies every hateful, intolerant, vulgar, and false thing they claim about Christians. They live a sad, pathetic life of imagined persecution from Christians and lash out at anything and everything they can in order to give their lives some modicum of meaning.

Ever heard of sarcasm?

I've heard of sarcasm. If you were using it, I'd see it. While what you said might have been flavored with a bit of hyperbole, you believe 100% the basic point you were making.

If someone criticizes this film they are pilloried.

If people actually criticized this film for legitimate reasons, they wouldn't receive any blowback. However, just perusing the past posts by people like yourself proves that you have no legitimate reasons.

And conversely, if anyone praises this film, they are condemned as some ignorant, mindless fundamentalist Christian who thinks this is the greatest movie ever made and refuses to see any flaws in the movie.

Your statement confirms exactly what I said.

Hey, look! Irony!

See? If you don't like this film or find faults with it, it's because of hatred towards Christians in general.

No, grandpa, I was speaking specifically about all of you trolls on this board.

why exactly are you against this scene? because he does not swear? since whenis swearing something EVERYONE does. Just because swearing is a natural part of your vocab it isnt for everyone else. So for you it isnt natural but for other people who arent like you its completely natural. instead of aruging about how others are wrong. why dont you just realise not everyone acts like you and just suck it up and deal with it. Stop acting like a child. As a 19 year old you sound as though you are 9 but i have feeling you are very much older than that. please are your age and not like your shoe size.

I hate this movie and I'm Christian. Would you say that I'm contradicting myself? I hate this movie because it's such a half-assed effort. There's no care put into it. It's like they started with the message, then worked on everything else for a few minutes. Then they stopped and said "eh, good enough" and shipped it to theaters. And sure, I kinda like the message of forgiveness and all that, but there is more to a movie than the message, and if anyone says otherwise, feel free to punch them in the face.

reply

I can see your point because alot of adults don't know how to properly argue...that scene had me cringing because of how angry he was...it seemed realistic to me because when my husband and I argue..we don't use language like that..in fact we don't even raise our voices the way Caleb did.

daveramsey.com "Best thing to ever happen to us" Are you weird too?

reply

I don't think it was a problem of Caleb not actually swearing; it was just that it all sounded forced. I was thinking the same thing. Usually people who are so pissed are not so worried about who they offend so when he said "Woman", I was like "Yeah, I would have said bitch"

But the filmmakers wanted to make a family friendly film, so there ya go.

reply

Don't know about the rest of you but i about peed myself when i heard him spout that line. My church showed this film and the only reason i saw it is because i like Kirk. i ended up choking on my candy instead i mean come on,You ungratful WOMAN! ??? He could have said, You ungrateful COW!

"I only wish I could make you cry like I do."

Just put it on the Underhill's tab.

reply

I dont go to church and i do swear, BUT when i am trying to make a point MOST times i wont swear, because it belittles the point i am trying to make.

Swear words are used to make the person feel more important. All they do is cause you to miss the point of what you are trying to make.

You dont HAVE to swear to make a point, and you dont have to SWEAR to be real.

TO me it was a real portrayal.

I really dont understand the world where its almost mandatory to swear to make a point.

Who are you aiming this post at? Where did I say I was against this scene?

He was obviously talking to the OP.

reply

Blah blah blah, more sanctimonious dribble, blah blah blah, swearing is bad, if you swear you're bad, so don't be bad. I don't swear because I'm smarter than that, blah blah blah. Meh, eat *beep*

he is a christian and therefore he would not use that language for it is against god. even acting it out is against god

reply

I think he made the point whether he used the word "woman" or "bitch" doesn't matter. I mostly found the incidents where he's beating up the trash and his computer and the neighbor is always out there hilarious.

Do ya love him Loretta?
Ah Ma I love im awful.
Oh God, you poor thing.

My husband and I went to Kirk's marriage seminar last year. He showed that clip from that movie. You'd be suprised how many women in the audience were crying. His point with it was to have God teach you patience and respect in the face of conflicts. Kirk made note of how Catherine in the film kinda backed up and seemed scared. He was saying to the men in the audience that we all get mad but if you back your wife into a corner (literally) and she appears afraid , then that's a sure sign you need God's guidance for marriage because no woman should ever be made to feel that way.

I'd leave it to the professionals rather than a spurious megalomaniac.
