Love can only exist with God? Give me a break.

I like almost any movie with Kirk Cameron but I felt he was breaking his back for a bitch who didn't seem to give a rat's ass about what he was going through... it's a dog eat dog world out there- he was a HERO outside of his marriage- that's important... real important, ... still, atheists/agnostics and disbelievers can form a fine marriage WITHOUT relying on jesus christ and god. What a horrible movie.

But it's only with God's help that one can love another person perfectly. You need Him to love that person through you. Marriage was intended to be for a lifetime; he did exactly what he should have done by fighting for her love and asking God to help him.

reply

"But it's only with God's help that one can love another person perfectly.:"

Bang goes free will then. To have to believe that they have to let a mythical being control their love-life, people are made impotent and immasculated.

No our free will is not taken away. We choose to let God come into us and make us the best, most loving people we can be. Since we have the choice we still have free will.

reply

"No our free will is not taken away."

Indeed, because it was never given. Free will is part of humanity, nothing more.

"Ignorance is not a privilege, it's a handicap"

reply

If that's so, then why do you force that choice onto others? Where's the free will in being critical of someone who doesn't believe the same as you and trying to get them to change their views?

reply

This is a common misconception. Free will means you get to make your own decisions without having a gun to your head. Free will doesn't mean that everyone around you has to shut up and not express their opinions. :) You can be critical of me all you want, that doesn't violate my freedom. Hope this helps.

reply

"Free will means you get to make your own decisions without having a gun to your head". Or with a threat of burning in hell for entirety. Hope this helps.

reply

If hell doesn't exist (at least that's what atheists believe), it's not much of a threat. If hell does exist, it's not a threat (because it's not in control of theists), but merely a warning.

reply

God, the one True God, is a Loving God. He gave us free will, turning to Him, bending to His will, does not take away from free will. But God has to Call you, if you do not feel the call, so be it.

I'll pray for you. You don't get it.

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

reply

According to the Bible Satan/the snake gave us free will while god tried to keep it from us. Then god punished Adam and Eve and all of their successors for doing something they couldn't comprehend was wrong without first doing it.

reply

"Perfectly" eh... no human is perfect, so that statement is completely inaccurate... and as for marriage, people shouldn't get married in "God's church" anymore if they think they're going to split in the first place- waste of time and money not to mention can screw up the poor children's heads... I feel the worst for them, kids who have to deal with the divorce, NOT the parents.

You do, so why not?

Q How did nothing BLOW up???????????????????? see cause that confuses me very much!!!!!!

I'm not surprised that you're confused. Big Bang has nothing to do with nothingness "blowing up". It is confusing, what with the word "bang" conjuring up images of explosions and whatnot.

and dont even think about saying that the world is billions of years old because u have no proof!!!! You WERE NOT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you were there when god created the world? If you weren't, your argument holds no water.

and if u say u are an athiest well then u believe that u cant be absoulutly sure about anything!!!

Even an atheist can be absolutely sure that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, to give you one example.

Trust me God is real

Sure, why believe all the scientists, with their facts and theories and tests, when we can just trust you because you said so...

Also, people might be inclined to take you more seriously if you had even a tenuous grasp on spelling and grammar. OK, maybe not, but at least you wouldn't come across as a complete uneducated buffoon.

More fish for Kunta

reply

The sun does not rise nor set. It is the illusion that we preceive based on our place on this earth and how tiny we are in comparison to the rest of the universe. Which is exactly the point of God and us. We only see a very small amount of what is around us, we do not see the big picture like God does. It is only through time and maturity can we come to see how and why certain things in our lives take place. Also, not all scientists are atheists. It is not always in black and white. Many world-class scientists are faithful Christians, understanding that there is more than the universe, itself, at work.

Why would they want to? The Christianity is responsible for millions of deaths. And since there is no empirical evidence to say he actually existed, there's no reason to consider worshipping him.

But not as cool. Frodo & Luke Skywalker > God. Seriously.

reply

This is one of my problems with religion and the whole God thing. If everything you do is through God or pre-determined by him, that makes life pointless. It would be like being a character in a video game, which is what The Simpsons Game's conclusion turned out to be.

reply

If there's no God, there's the same problem - where does free will come from? We are only a bunch of atoms, we function according to the laws of physics and biochemistry, our decisions are not really our decisions, we are like preprogrammed biocomputers.

"But it's only with God's help that one can love another person perfectly." Humans are human, and religious and not religious, in fact none of us EVER do anything as grand as loving others "perfectly" on this Earth over the course of a lifetime or even a week.

I'm a lifelong atheist; I love plenty of people (some of them devoutly Christian) and plenty of people love me (some of them devoutly Christian). I don't mind other people having different beliefs from me. I do mind my life and the lives of other atheists being simply lied about, with regard to how love works and who cares about love and loves how much and how, to serve what, a false sense of smugness? Recruiting by any means, including dishonest means?

I thought this movie had a lot of good points. But lying about reality I don't file under good points. A Hindu could just as easily claim that _you_ can't "really" love unless you're a Hindu (there are about twice as many Hindus in India as there are people total in the U.S.), for example, and the claim would be just as empty.

If it's such a horrible movie, and if you disagree with its Christian viewpoint, why did you even WATCH the movie? And come to think of it, why are you even posting on a message board for what is obviously a CHRISTIAN movie?

reply

"If it's such a horrible movie, and if you disagree with its Christian viewpoint, why did you even WATCH the movie?"

A movie is a movie regardless of it's viewpoint. And how does one realize it's a horrible movie? BY WATCHING IT.

"And come to think of it, why are you even posting on a message board for what is obviously a CHRISTIAN movie? "

IT'S A MOVIE. These are message boards about MOVIES. People can give their opinions - that's the whole point of these boards.

The irony is a "lost boys fan" is saying you shouldn't watch a christian film, while their name should be a good indication that they are watching films that they shouldn't be watching. Considering they might be a good christian, and lost boys films don't support good christian values with images of violence and harsh language.

Oh please. Why do you think the divorce rate is over 60%? Does that sound successful to you?

The reason is because people try to have marriages not based on godly principles, and as a result, those marriages usually fail.

Fireproofing a marriage based on godly principles is the best way to make sure that it doesn't fail.

reply

"Oh please. Why do you think the divorce rate is over 60%?"

Which includes Christian divorces, retard. Lying about figure underscores your dishonesty: Christian Divorce Rate Identical to National Average.

Marriage fails because people lack foresight. Like someone else said earlier, people shouldn't get married if they can't commit. That being said, a lot of people marry their high school 'sweethearts' and what not when they shouldn't. Don't marry someone you can't spend the rest of your life with. That's kinda the point of marriage.

'God' doesn't fit in the equation. It's all about compatibility and foresight.

reply

marriage fails because people have a stupid inflated idea about what marriage is and then when reality smacks them in the face they run away. Period.

Oh yeah and there is no God so don't worry about upsetting him.

reply

The divorce rate is sky-rocketing because these more recent generations aren't letting their lives be ruled by fear. The primary reasons lots of older couples stayed together was because it was socially unacceptable to get a divorce.

You cannot love someone without loving God. The bible says that. So yes to have a working long lasting loving marriage you must have God in your life.

reply

Give me a break. I don't need some mythical being in the sky to tell me how to love someone else, or putting conditions on my ability to love someone else. Your god was also in favor of incest, racial segregation, women not speaking in church, etc. The "bible" says THAT, too. In order to have "god" in your life you must believe in these things, too! You can't just pick and choose parts of the bible to follow.

~**~
In order for you to insult me, I would first have to value your opinion.

reply

"You scoff at the idea that love can only exist with God"

It can and does exist without god.

You cannot make such a statement without first proving the existence of god, something you cannot do.

"Ignorance is not a privilege, it's a handicap"

But the bible does have contradictions. Lots and lots of them. Can you even tell me who first saw the resurrected Jesus?

reply

"People who don't believe in God -- you, for example -- sure have a difficult time proving that. "

Vapid generalizations seem to be your forte, but inevitably without merit or foundation. All you do is make ad-hom attacks because you cannot quantify your claims. You're assuming I don't believe in god - erroneous in itself.
Secondly, you're assuming that just because people people do not worship your god is validation your claim. A fallacy. Most Christians believe in evolution and accept how instincts and emotions also evolved, so even believers would disagree with you.

"Yeah, I'm sure that all 66 books of the Bible -- written over hundreds of years on three different continents by dozens of authors from all walks of life in widely varied cultures -- just happened to completely agree with each other without contradiction simply by chance. "

let's deconstruct your massively flawed argument, shall we:

" written over hundreds of years "

Hmm, so actually inspired by previous writings and texts...actually favors the opposite of your claim.

"on three different continents"

Thee different continents? Have you actually read the Bible - it is all set in one area. The alleged writers were from this area. Where do you get the three continents?

"by dozens of authors from all walks of life in widely varied cultures"

Err since they were all in the same vicinity their cultures were hardly widely varied, quite the opposite in fact. also we have no idea who the actual writers were, as copies of copies of hearsay, written decades and centuries after the event obliterate their actual origins.

"just happened to completely agree with each other without contradiction simply by chance."

Hardly by chance, since they were all written AFTER the alleged events. All of it is hearsay and carefully edited and chosen by the original compilers.Of course you are probably unaware that the Bible has been altered and censored by the compilers.

And no contradictions? Are you sure you've read it? It has many, many contradictions and factual errors and historical inconsistencies.

I suggest you take a few history lessons and actually read this so-called infallible book.

The three continents in the Bible are Africa, Asia, and Europe. I am not sure why you are trying to claim that the Bible doesn't take place in three continents.

You need top learn how to read:

"written over hundreds of years on three different continents"

Think about it.

reply

"it is all set it one area"

That was the claim I was responding to. Though I do think that some of the books were written in Europe and Africa.

reply

"Though I do think that some of the books were written in Europe and Africa. "

There is absolutely no evidence of such. If so, it would invalidate much of the Bible.

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free" - Goethe

reply

Why would it invalidate much of the Bible? The Book of Revelation was supposedly written on a Greek island called Patmos.

reply

"Why would it invalidate much of the Bible? "

Because, revelation aside, removing authorship from the geographical location undermines the validity of the so-called eyewitness accounts and diminishes their credibilty.

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free" - Goethe

reply

What do you mean removing? The Bible takes place on three continents.

reply

"What do you mean removing?"

It was WRITTEN on three continents. Work it out. It's not rocket science.

"Please explain how any marriage can be good without God? HE CREATED MARRIAGE"

Strange how marriage is far older than your religion...and you state this as a fact? Again, do your homework.

"None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free" - Goethe

reply

I have to chime in as this is one of the most hilerious threads I've ever read. Christians who play the "because god said so..." card is so over done. So marriage cannot exist without God's love? I know a married couple with no beliefs in religion or god and they have been happily married for 7 years and have been a couple for 13 years still going very strong.

We are told there is no santa claus, east bunny, tooth fairy, etc., they are made up to make us feel better and make us smile. Who's to say the same thing can't be said about god? It's a bed time story that people use to put enough fear in a person to "behave" but make them feel like there's some imaginary being that still loves them. The bible is full of contradictions and I'm sick of christians treating those who don't believe in the same interests like crap, not very christian like.
