Let's be objective for a moment ...

Let's put aside the one-sided religious theme here for a moment and be objective. The storyline is horrendously written and is only overshadowed by the abysmal acting. Honestly, I've seen better acting during the role playing segment of workplace seminars. The emotions are even remotely believable and it seems like 75% of the cast couldn't even be bothered to memorize their lines and instead read them right off the cue cards. This is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen and I have literally seen thousands. It may have its place as a tool to be used at religious retreats, but that's about as far as its value goes.

Yeah, this was terrible to be sure, but it did have one or two moments that I liked, particularly the hot sauce scene. Personally, of the films that the Kendrick brothers have made, Facing the Giants is worse.

Facing the Giants is my favorite... To each their own.

How do you figure that the storyline is horrendous? You will have to be more specific about what the problems are before anyone can know what you are trying to say.

I thought the storyline was amazing, except for a couple of pointless scenes that should have been deleted, like the fat guy fooling around in the washroom.

Yes, the acting was not the best other than from Kirk, but that's okay because they were amateur actors. I'm willing to cut them slack on that basis. Besides, Kirk's powerhouse performance more than makes up for the other actors' wonky acting.

that's about as far as its value goes.

It's value is that is captures a great many of God's and the Bible's core messages into a single film with a coherent plot and an outstanding lead actor. This film can be used to save souls anywhere that has a home video player, not only at "religious retreats."
