Some of it's autobiographical. I'm not sure how much, knowing no more than Wikipedia told me. Except that this story seems to have the events occur to two characters, "PKD" and his friend. In real life, it was PKD himself who had the experiences, plus many many more. Read about it, it's interesting. There's also a video on youtube with PKD explaining his spiritual experiences from this point in his life. It seems like it's an important key to understanding his work, but I've never read any of it... yet. I liked this movie, low-budg though it was.
