Publicly showing arrestees...

I think that American shows like Jail or C.O.P.S should be illegal.
These people, in the arrest and booking phase are still LEGALLY innocent until proven guilty and showing their face all over tele could have real negative reprecussions on their life.
What if some of these people shown are later proven to be innocent? There face is forever on one of these episodes.
That's exactly why if you watch Canadian 'reality' cop shows, the person in question's face is always blurred and their name is beeped out.
I find the U.S. versions of these shows to be immoral and should be illegal.
What if one of you U.S. males got into an argument with your wife/girlfriend and she called the cops on you out of spite even though you never laid a hand on them? If you ended up with your face on one of these shows, you would be automatically branded guilty by anyone who recognized you.
I don't think it's moral and it should be illegal in the US.

It was a legit question...you idiot. If no one is convicted of a crime then their face should be not shown unless that person gives concent....but this show could also be fake as hell... in which case...I apologize

I'm assuming they have to sign a waiver to show their face, that's why sometimes their faces do get blurred out, same as on COPS. I'm sure there is some monetary incentive to sign the waiver however.

Sass, is right. On American television it is required by law that before anyone's image is released onto broadcast tv that person's signature is required an on shows like this a healthy renumeration is paid. This of course is not required for local news.

I don't think most of the people on Cops really care about having their face shown...

And in the beginning, they even say that all the arrestees are innocent until proven guilty...

reply

Everyone has to sign a release in order for them to show their likeness on the program.
