Hey is your screen name a reference to the funniest movie of all time, "Buffalo 66"?
About the concert, I'm guessing since it was a 3-day event, people just camped out wherever they found a spot. Some events are more about the vibe than the actual spectacle. When the Olympics came to my city, it was a week-long party full of visitors from all over the world, even though half the people probably didn't see any events.
I also remember an Elton John concert in the park I went to, but I couldn't get close so I just hung out with a bunch of fans in a field. With Woodstock, I'm guessing anyone who got within a mile radius had a good time.
