What the hell were those memories of his?! [possible spoilers]

It's his soul, we're not really supposed to know I guess. The director just seemed to be trying to film what your soul would be like. Obviously no one knows what it looks like so it was just her interpretation of the soul.

Check out a film called Mirror by Andrei Tarkovsky for another attempt to "film the soul". Interesting idea.

I'd hazard a guess that once you reach middle age, your soul will have a load of random, odd memories that don't have any logic behind them. At the risk of analyzing material that is outside my educational credentials, I believe the subconscious comes into play here. Its part of who you are, no? I'll stop there and let a more learned professional take over. And for the record, I liked this part of the film quite a lot.
