David Strathairn

I'm surprised that in all the verbiage about this movie, few, if any, have talked about the performance of the always reliable David Strathairn. For me, he stole the movie as the buttoned-down lunatic with the great suit and beautifully coiffed hair. He traffics in souls with the earnestness of a minister, and he does it all with a marvelously controlled straight face. And all the time he's a certified nutcase.

This movie was SUPPOSED to be a satire, but fell all over itself along the way and just didn't work. It wasn't a 'comedy,' or even a 'drama,' although it's billed that way.

And Paul Giamatti is a good actor, but he shows in this movie that he should stick with supporting parts.

Then you must not have seen:

Sideways
John Adams
American Splendor

He certainly has the chops to carry a film. And he'll have an Oscar or two before its all said and done.

Let's never come here again because it would never be as much fun.

I think David Strathairn is wonderful.
Paul Giamatti is one of my favourite actors and I think he's more than capable of starring in leading roles.

Both Strathairn and Giamatti are wonderful, and kudos to both of them for doing these oddball films instead of the easy-money blockbusters!

i agree that Strathairn is also a great actor in this movie, but a certified nutcase? How do you figure?

The narative assumes the trading Souls is actually a real possibilty, so how is this gut a nutcase?
