Companion Cube

First, have you noticed that there are no other people in the game? So, it's partly that you're so deprived of human contact and comfort that you form a strong attachment to a cube with a heart on it.

Plus, GLaDOS spends that whole level humanizing companion cube. Companion cube stuck with you through the whole level, helped you get up when you were down, and was really just generally really great. Than GLaDOS says horrible things as you're trying to drop it down the fire like what she said about it maybe experiencing pain.

I literally felt a little pang of sadness when I had to throw Companion Cube into the fire :(

Companion cube was my favorite character in Portal. When I had to throw it in the fire I was devastated.
