Definitely cancelled

Entertainment Weekly reported that USA has cancelled "The Starter Wife" due to low ratings.

Yep. Shame on them. The 10-episode "series" was a disappointment. I think this show had potential but never hit it. I TiVo'd all episodes because I didn't think it was worthy of paying for it on iTunes like I did the mini-series. Too bad because Debra Messing and Judy Davis are outstanding actresses and I don't think they were given solid material.

I agree: I totally loved the mini-series, and maybe it deserved a little follow-up, but how many years can a divorcee be a "Starter Wife?" It's time for Americans to accept that a really good show doesn't always need a second season. It can have a start, middle, and end. Like a good book doesn't always need a sequel. (Take _Scarlett_, for example.) And if they allowed the story to have an ending, maybe Molly could have ended up with Lou - that would have been great; they could both accept her as an independent, real woman.

I liked it enough I wish it would have gone longer, renewed for a season or something.

I think it's at least as good as "Royal Pains" and that is going to see a 2nd season.

I think it could have been stronger though I wonder how bad the ratings were. USA probably has a higher bar than other cable channels given that most of its shows seem to get around a 5 million (DVR+) viewing.

I won't say that I am glad it got cancelled, but I will say I am glad that USA won't be running 20 The Starter Wife commercials per hour anymore. The amount of hype they gave it 4 months before it debuted told me not to expect much...lo and behold 1 season and it is dead.

it wasn't that good or funny, but debra apparently has a new tv show on nbc

Last movie
The Children of Huang Shi 6/10
The Express 8/10
igor 4/10

Yes, that got so damned annoying! Good to see it gone. One less piece of glop on TV.

I liked it well enough. Didn't think the quality had dropped that much from the mini-series. Didn't love the wrap up last episode because it all seemed to happen too fast (maybe they'd just figured out they were cancelled?). And I didn't love the Judy Davis storyline this go round.
