Q for those who've seen it...

...Is there any sort of underlying intensity to the movie, ala Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, and/or Magnolia? You know PTA, how he sometimes puts in that "bong" sound while focusing on a character's face to instill some fear in you, to make you wonder what's going to happen next? Or is it just more of a feel-good/uplifting sort of movie throughout? Could/would you compare it's intensity to Magnolia or Boogie Nights in any way? Thanks!

I seen it today... The answer to this question is...No! :)

It was more of a funny movie but there are a few moments that I was unsure if the tone was going to shift or not.

There is a section involving Bradley Cooper's character where things get a bit tense, but otherwise it's a pretty lighthearted movie. Not dark at all.

I assume PTA is not Parent-teacher Association?

Paul Thomas Anderson, the director.

There are a few scenes that get kinda hairy and you think you might be in for a Rahad Jackson moment. I won't spoil further.

I saw it last night, and the answer is a hard no! Also I have no clue why it's so highly rated. I give it a 6.
