Cause of the Fall

So, maybe I am a little late to the game her. But I just finished watching the entire series and have my own theory as to what caused the full.

I believe that the Parthia group isn't a terrorist group. If fact, they are trying to save mankind. Members of the group found out about a virus that was infecting almost every person on the planet. This virus would either change the person's genetic code or literally eat them alive. So they created the nano machines to stop the virus. However, the goverment thought they were a terrorist organization and turned on the EMP to stop them. The EMP shut off the nano machines thereby allowing the virus to thrive again. After nearly 7 years, the virus had mutate and didnt eat a person alive slowly, but very, very quickly. That is why everyone dissapeared so fast.

So, if anyone is keeping an eye on this page, there is my theory.
