The Title

Did anyone else think this was going to be a completely different type of movie when they heard the title?

"The thief is sorry he is to be hanged, not that he is a thief."

reply

This board has certainly broadened my horizons, informing me of some meanings of the title that I hadn't known before.

The movie is about a tv morning show that is failing and looking for some popularity, or even glory. A morning glory is first of all a family of flowers that fully open in the morning. (They had a brief fame in the sixties as an alleged psychedelic.) There are no guys in the movie waking up in the morning. In the musical Bye Bye Birdie, "The Telephone Song" features a gaggle of gossiping teenagers singing, "What's the story, morning glory / What's the word, hummingbird?,"--teenage slang like "See you later, alligator."

So: whether or not the producers knew of some of the alternate meanings of the term, I see no reason to think that they had anything in mind besides tv shows and flowers that both bloom in the morning, perhaps with an echo of the song and its oblique reference to journalism. IMHO.

Its obviously not the first meaning to the phrase morning glory, but it can also be used to refer to someone's trip to the bathroom in the morning (also referenced by Harrison Ford in the movie, "why call it your morning coffee, why not your morning dump?"

reply

Yeah I thought it might be about a man who was unable to get rid of his morning erection.
Something we've all endured, surely.

reply

Yeah, right. You thought it was going to be a porno movie starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton.

reply

I thought that the show that McAdams' character produces was going to be called "Morning Glory". It's called "Daybreak". Who comes up with these titles? Like Russell Crowe's new film, "The Next 3 Days", huh? Is this a sequel to the 1999 Kevin Costner film 13 days? Or how about the Nicholas Cage film "Knowing". Knowing what? Or even the title "Definitely, maybe". What?

reply

morning glory seeds really are psychedelic.. but anyway, the first thing that comes to my mind is Oasis.

reply

The second thing that comes to my mind is the Oasis song.

It's that man again!!

reply

Just from seeing the title and tagline, not who was in it, I thought it'd be about Oasis
Unfortunately it's not :(
