So Christoph Waltz was pretending to be American? Did he pass for you?

I couldn't help thinking that he was a European something, given his accent. Yes he sounds a lot more american than usual, but i've met lots of europeans who speak with quasi-american accents. Perhaps because of this I can still hear his european accent shine through.

I think his tendency to over-pronounce words also makes me think of him as a foreigner.

My sis and I thought the same thing. I had to look up the real guy to see if he was American or not. I don't know how it got through. I can't do accents by any means, but you'd think he'd work with a coach or something.

reply

He probably did and that was the best he could do.

reply

I thought he was just fine.

and you are from where? English 1st language?

reply

Uh....no. He sounds like he is from anywhere BUT America.

As good of an actor as Waltz is, he doesn't do an "American" accent very well.

He is in some commercial where is trying to act like he is American and his accent is comical (although it may have meant to be)

That commercial is supposed to be a joke.

In the movie he definitely doesn't pass for American, but I feel like they brought up his past living in Europe and travelling after the war enough that it worked as sort of an explanation without directly addressing it.

Still, the real Walter Keane spoke with an American accent, so it's not accurate.

No, he didn't. My native language isn't English, and even I heard it. Frankly, he just sounded like Christoph Waltz to me.

reply

He didn't and I'm not even American. I could always hear a German accent in it.
