Did anybody else notice...........

Did anybody else notice how Joe Peschi's accent changes from a slight Southern drawl when he's talking, to a New York gangster when he gets angry? Just one of several implausible elements of this mediocre film.

YES!! I was like "Dude, pick an accent and stick with it!"

While Helen Mirren's American accent wasn't perfect, at least it was consistent. Pesci could have learned a thing or twenty from her. Though let's face it, Dame Helen Mirren playing the wife of Joe Pesci...it just doesn't work, for so many, many reasons.

I agree with THUNDERBIRD that this is a mediocre film with implausible elements. Mirren's talents are wasted in it and Pesci's one dimension (foul-mouthed gangster) became tiresome a long time ago. Also, he's getting too old to be fearsome or attractive to young women; he was 67 when he made this movie.
That said, with regard to his Southern accent, during the New Year's party, Grace (Mirren) tells one of the girls that Charlie (Pesci) is a Southern boy by way of Newark, New Jersey, where, incidentally, Pesci was actually born. In other words, the drawl was phony; Charlie was pretending to be a good ole boy.

Maybe I missed something, but I was under the impression he was faking the twang for the press? Mirren's character makes several references to him putting on his act.

Amy: I swear to God...I swear to God! That is NOT how you treat your human!
