any predictions/ideas/hopes?

Maybe during this one, Courtney and David will get back together in real life! Each of these movies does seem to mark a stage for them.

Wondering if they'll do a "direct sequel" to the original, which is all the rage in horror franchises these days, a la Halloween. Ignoring 2, 3, and 4, and doing its own new thing. Given that we'll never have another by Craven, I guess now would be the time. Though I'll always wonder about the rumored 5 and 6 originally planned.

But just imagine a direct sequel. Maybe Sidney's completely crippled emotionally and never left Woodsboro. Her dad and Randy are still alive, there and doing their thing. Instead of the older brother guardian type, Dewey hates Sidney, resenting her and blaming her for Tatum's death. Gale is still a trashy hateful tabloid type. The killer turns out to be Billy's mother once again, but this time played by Laurie Metcalf's daughter, just like in Young Sheldon.

A problem is that this just ushers in the idea of constantly going in different directions, and eventually there are ten timelines all bursting from the original. And that they're constantly being done by people who said they were fans of the original growing up almost makes it feel like we're giving way to legitimizing fan-fiction.

I made a thread about four topics down speculating about a direct sequel to the original. The idea has its perks (like there finally being a plausible way to bring Randy back), but overall I think fans would hate it. It destroys the mythology of the series

Another idea is to rip off New Nightmare (which would be fine, since it was a Wes Craven film) and have a story where the four Screams movies were just movies, but somebody in the real world dons the Ghostface costume and starts targeting the real life actors behind the movies (Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette, all playing fictionalized versions of themselves), and creating their own real life Scream film. It's sort of multi-dimensional and you could incluce cameos from other actors in the series, including one or both of the original killers (Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard.)

WHAT IS WES CRAVEN'S DEATH/FUNERAL UNLEASHED THE PLOT...YOU COULD EVEN THROW IN CHARACTERS FROM OTHER CRAVEN FILMS.

:-O

Thought I'd seen one, but missed it upon recheck, sorry

My hopes:
- One of the killers is from Scream 3. Bear with me: every other movie had 2 killers. Roman (I think it was Roman) worked alone, yet gets as beat up as the others without showing a mark. It doesn't make much senses. So add that Roman didn't actually work alone and tie this movie to the rest in that way. Roman can still be the director and all, new killer was the lackey to Roman, but now is in charge with his own lackey.
- 3 killers at least. Surprise the audience by revealing the two, then third comes out of nowhere! Remember that sequels have to be bigger and badder!
- Sidney, if not Gale and Dewey as well, have CCL and are really hard to kill. Killer has to work around them. Make Sid just go after the killer on occasion and the killer actually has to run off (anyone who doesn't carry a weapon at all times after being attacked by serial killers 4 different times is an idiot!).
- Bring back the song Red Right Hand from the first 3 movies!
- Finally, killer doesn't need to be identical to the others. Different weapons can now be used, outfit can change a bit (same mask, different costume). Killer actually learned from the others and is a tough bastard.

I'm sure I'll feel dumb/old for not knowing this, and the Google couldn't help me, but what is CCL?

reply

Concealed Carry License. It may not be a typical abbreviation.

I hope this installment will be a lot better than the 4th!

reply

Agreed, though I liked the 4th. Also, if this one parodies remakes or reboots somehow, you could then add some of the elements I mentioned, such as changing things up. That would be the movie tie-in angle (ie: horror movies, sequels, trilogies, remakes, and now reboots). Also, for gosh sake, make Dewey do something smart and competent for a damn change!

reply

- maybe they find some old tape recordings by Randy from the 1990s describing what he predicts horror movies will be like in 25 years to help guide Sidney and the others.
- probably add a supernatural element since most horror films do these days in order to better satirize the current state of horror films (perhaps the ghosts of past Ghostfaces)
- maybe have the characters realize they are in a reboot of an old franchise and play on the tropes that go along with modern reboots (ie new girl who thinks she is important, old character who is now a badass older person, new villain who is somehow related to the original lead)

They can make it that there was a third killer in the original Scream all along but they didn't get caught in the end and has hidden out biding their time.

reply

Yeah they kind of did that already in Scream 3

reply

I meant that there was a third person who actively took part in the killings with Stu and Billy, but during the finale scenes he was elsewhere when B and S did the reveal and was able to get away and wasn't sold out by them before they died. It doesn't really matter, they should have stopped after part 2 anyways.

reply

Oh I see what you mean. That would make for a cool reveal. But then they'd have to explain why they waited this long, through so many other copycats, and it would feel off that he'd go unmentioned by Billy and Stu during their final tirade. It could be done but would have to be more careful than they'd probably want to be.

it would be interesting if ontop of nev, courtney and david returning and about 6 new teen stars, they filled in the rest of the cast with sean and marlon wayans, anna faris and regina hall all playing serious characters involved in the story.

reply

Just hoping for the quality of 1/2. 3 and especially 4 were so missable.
