My Theory SPOILER ALERT

Hey Guys, i just finished watching this film and i must say that i thought it was brilliant and will go down into my top 10 movies of all time. The thing i loved about it the most, is that so many theories can be made as to what happened, due to the complex story. I thought it worked perfectly.
I see everybody else sharing their thoughts, so i thought i would share mine. Here is what i think happened. I could be wrong, but i feel it works for me. I have only watched this once, so i will go back and give it another shot when i can, to see if my theories add up. here goes.

The Sauna is Eriks conscience. It exists only in his mind, and stepping inside is basically owning up to what he has done. Knut was his brother, but has passed on, and is now with him and represents humanity in Eriks severely damaged mindset. Knut forces him to face up to his truths, basically "opening his eyes" to the terror he has caused. The child at the end was Eriks last victim and the "eye opener" that his guilty conscience cannot ignore.

Just my thoughts, like to know what you guys think :)

I quite like this. I thought the villagers must all be the people he killed, the young girl representing the girl in the cellar, his final victim. It's almost like 'Identity', where in his mind various aspects of his personality are killing each other off, until like you say, he has redemption and his sins are finally washed away. Interesting theory, haunting film.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!
