Not an awful movie, just a dumb movie

I can't think of any other single word to describe this movie other than just plain dumb.

reply

It was made to confuse people.

I think it's a movie to make people think. If you have nothing to think about and just call it "dumb", maybe this adjective applies more to you than to the movie...

Forgive me if that was impolite, but what kind of criticism is that anyway, just calling something "dumb" without giving any reason why you thought so?

reply

Spot on Frisil, you can call that movie many things but dumb is certainly not one of them. I understand it may have been too slow a pace to hold the attention of certain people but i cant remember seeing a horror movie with such depth, certainly in the last 10 years. Im still strugglimg with the significance of the final shot though, when the maps are found floating in the river??

reply

Yeah, I think it's dumb too.. what a waste of time :(

reply

Just because the movie has some depth it doesn't mean it's dumb.

I would rather say that the watcher who claims that didn't get it or is kinda dumb himself.

I'm sure that many are confused with the ending of this movie, but I don't know a way it could have gone any better. If a ending is happy, you want it to be more original, if it's sad - well, about the same thing there. And something unsettled is usually disliked, too. Nothing's ever good enough.

This movie was a combination of horror and art films, and I can recommend it to all people who define themselves as susceptible movie fans.

8/10

8/10 from me too.

I would counter this by saying that just because a movie has some depth, doesn't automatically make it a good movie either.

I would say it's the job of the filmmaker to make a movie that his audience understands. You can't blame the confusing elements of a movie on the viewer, they didn't make the movie.

Personally I haven't really formed a full opinion myself yet. I just watched it and I really need to let it sink it first. My refutation of your comments were not directed at the movie, just that I felt your comments were short sighted.

reply

Not a dumb movie but a horrible confusing movie. Watched it based on the high reviews here but luckily I didn't have to pay to watch it.

reply

I found it anything but dumb, but I understand if someone finds it somewhat confusing, I didn't figure it out myself either. But the atmosphere was great, although that may have something to do with being Finnish and relating on a certain level to the environment.

Just finished watching it, and enjoyed every second of it. It doesn't explain everything to death, but leaves it for you to interpret how you see fit. Go ahead interpret away, if you're happy with the result you're probably right for you....and probably not right for me.

PAX....

I didn't think it was dumb, but it was kind of hard to follow, kept jumping around. There were lots of moments where I felt lost, but i think it all came together in the end. Very spooky atmosphere and an unusual story, which was good

reply

Yeah your right, it was pretty stupid.

I think the plot was ok anyways but the way it was done in film was just stupid and also boring to me. I dont have ANY trust to AJ as director after that *beep* and this.

Spoilers:

First half of the movie was solid 8/10. Guilt of locking the chick up. Shroedinger's Cat scenario driving them crazy: "If we were to turn around and open the cellar, would she still be alive? Is the probability worth it? Is she alive or dead -- or some combination?"

Second half of the movie was pretty chaotic and there were some very bad directing choices (unnecessary use of special effects, poor continuity). 5/10.

Not the first time a movie was composed of 1/2 great movie, and 1/2 poor movie, but that describes Sauna very well.

I agree. The onset was great but the ending was rushed and confusing.

I once knew a family. If they disagreed with or didn't understand your opinion, they would call you 'dumb' or 'retarded'. This family was a family of monkey looking trailer trash ape beasts... true ignorant scum.

If you don't get the point, then I must be 'retarded'.
