Other movies like this?

I really enjoyed this movie... the slow, atmospheric pacing... the way that it crept up under your skin rather than just having cheap scares. Anyway, I'm looking for more intelligent horror films like this. (Horror, in my mind, is a completely different genre than slasher.) I just watched The Objective and enjoyed it. I've seen Session 9. Also I loved Silent Hill, which had that same growing-dread feeling. So what do you recommend?

Black death!!

definitely Black Death. In fact, Sauna kind of reminded me of Black Death in a few regards... maybe it was the isolated village thing, but it definitely has a similar kind of pacing and atmosphere. Check that one out.

Stalker. The place sauna is similar to the centre of the ZONE.

Was just going to say Valhalla Rising myself. Glad to see other fans of it here (due to poor marketing from the DVD distributers that film was totally aimed at the wrong audience on the retail market).

Valhalla Rising, to be sure - a most compelling film, as was Sauna. I look forward to checking out the other recommendations made here.

The closest comparison to this film, by and large, is VALHALLA RISING...especially in terms of cinematography and pacing.

Sauna was an odd and challenging film. It's not without it's flaws (the completely beautiful, yet ambiguious and question-filled ending), but overall, a unique horror experience that proved images can speak volumes more than dialogue.

I, too, hope to find similar films like it.

It's been said by a couple posters already, but definitely check out Black Death. I saw Black Death after Filth, & while watching Black Death I thought immediately of Filth; same dreamy/nightmarish atmosphere, same slow-burn pacing.
