This sounds familiar

Does anyone else think this film sounds a wee bit too similar to the classic "Leon"?

reply

At first glance, yes, but they're not remotely alike. For one thing "Leon" is a good movie. This is not.

reply

It is a completely different film from 'Leon'. Why do people have to hang tags on everything they see? Is it a fear of something different?

This is an excellent small-budget film, with the three principals, especially JM, putting in good performances. It is sad without being mawkish, and humorous without being condescending. The contrast between what JM's character does for a living and his everyday behaviour is handled sensitively and sympathetically.

I think a lot of people are going to watch this expecting Hollywood explosions, gunfire and other stupidities, in which case they will inevitably be disappointed. But their behaviour is akin to someone going into a vegetarian restaurant and complaining because there's no roast beef.

It's a pity this went straight to TV, and a waste that it wasn't picked up by any distributors. When I see some of the total cr@p around it really does make me wonder what people want of a creative and industrious industry.

reply

If you think this is a good movie.... I have no other comments for you.

reply

So why did you bother with that one?

Films like this are subjective; some people will like them for reasons that maybe have nothing to do with a literal reading of the film.

Others won't. If you disagree, that's your prerogative. But if you're going to contradict me try coming up with something a little bit more constructive than this.

reply

I don't have to contradict you because there's nothing positive you can point in this movie. And my opinion is not like one of the idiots use: "the worst movie ever made". It is just a poor, very low-budget drama, with a very bad script. Even like this, with a better script, this movie could have been a good one.

reply

That's your opinion. Accept that you don't know everything there is to know about writing. Writing is an art, not a science, so all opinions are subjective. Otherwise all writing would be done by 100 monkeys or by a specially-programmed computer. Would you prefer that?

If I'm prepared to allow you your opinion without making a fuss what is it that makes you feel you have to argue about mine?

I'm a Fan of Low Budget Films in-general , and of "Character Studys" in-particular ... This Film was on Cable/Satellite , This Morning (in the U.S.) ... I was half-asleep. I would like to see-It again.

reply

I thought it was a low-budget version of Shadowboxer
