like Schindler's list

Schindler's List comes to mind

yes, the comparison has been made before, and it is a good analogy, there are a lot of obvious parallels. The John Rabe portrayed here is a man of extraordinary character and a hero, like Schindler. One difference is there is no one extreme central villain quite like Amon Goeth in Schindler.

Not quite at the level of Schindler's List, but pretty close, and a good job of dealing with this topic on film.

By the way, Buscemi is surprisingly good in this film. He's not Mr Pink, and "Donny" Kerabatsos, and not Carl Showalter. Yeah, I though that he was pretty good in his role in this film. Respect.

The Rape of Nanking: it is hard to believe that this kind of thing happened.

This do remind me about Schindler's List.

Actually on my DVD cover it says John Rabe: Kiinan oma Oscar Schindler (~John Rabe: China's Oscar Schindler).
