SPOILER..my only beef is

Martin Lawrence definitely should have been given a segment of his own..he WAS Black comedy from 91-95.

HE hosted Def Jam and made it what is was, HE started the 90s wave of Black young centered TV shows....he's the one who has consistently been in films since his show was still on the air.

Otherwise great doc., but Martin's omission was a HUGE one....

Maybe they considered Chris Rock as covering Martin Lawrence's age group. After all, Redd Foxx had a lot of peers, but we only hear about him for his age group. He also overlapped with Eddie Murphy and the Wayans brothers.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

reply

Martin had more of an impact than Rock did.

Better film career also

I don't think Martin had more of an impact, maybe early on from like the early 90's but since he mid 90s it's been all Rock.

Also, he didn't start the wave of young black comics in 1991, that was In Living Color in 1990.

Also, they didn't mention a lot of folks, no mention of Arsenio Hall either ...

Nope. Martin had a bigger impact on the black community. Everyone was copying his slang and gestures, Hand-in-face, BEGONE, you go girl, ( all that blew up with Martin). Chris Rock was adored by white people more...that's about it. Not too many whites understood Martin's comedy at the time. It was a real hood show.

I hear that, he was the Def Jam icon, but they say Lawrence is the Rodney Dangerfield of black comedy: HE NEVER GOT (gets) ANY 'RESPECT' LOL! I never found him that funny but I did watch Martin from time to time and though it ran along time it never go much kudos... who knows. Perhaps he did not want to be part of this film for some reason......

I agree, I kept saying where is Martin Lawrence? But he was at least mentioned once. The only thing I could think of is maybe he didn't really want to be apart of it for whatever reason. To me "You So Crazy" is one of the funniest comedy specials ever.

I also wondered where Aries Spears was, since he's pretty funny too and doesn't just make curse-filled uneducated jokes. Oh well, can't show everyone I guess.

You know what, if you were a woman, or even dressed as a woman, man, we'd be unstoppable.
