Black + White??? Question 4 those who seen it.......

Is it a documentary or is it a movie???? And, is it better than Asian thriller, The Message?

reply

Yes it's filmed in black and white and is a movie movie, not a documentary.

Drama based on real events and refers to actual persons as models for characters. Haven't seen The Message but City of Life and Death is a very fine movie. Sort of like The Pianist or Shindler's List.

I got it cheap from a store today, looked like an interesting movie. Very disappointing that it's shot entirely in black and white.
So I doubt will ever get past the first minute.

Don't be so small minded. I actually think color would have been distracting - you don't have to see red in the blood to know it's blood.

It was in black and white ?
I never even realized, geez, after looking through the screenshots I think you're right.
How did I miss that ? I must have been so completely absorbed by what was going on, it never occurred to me.

Anyway, this is the best historical drama I've ever seen. It's not a thriller, don't get the wrong idea.

Just watched on netflix. A truly great and moving movie. Well acted, written, has it all. The music was very beautiful as well. Amazing that the Japanese were so brutal when you look at them today. Get a chance, watch it.
