Best war scenes since Saving Private Ryan.

The detail in those scenes was incredible, really conveyed the desperate struggle by the Chinese holdouts so well.

How did the director pull off som of those shots? Very talented.

wel it was incredible great i must concur, but the best ,most realistic grit war sequences since SPR, i must say is the series the pacific, have you seen it? i watched it in excellent quality with dts soundtrack trough a convincing 5.1 surround system.i watch a lot of war movies, but ive never felt as so real feeling right in the middle of everything close. on a technical level truly insane.
but again no discredit to this, its great!

The battle scenes in the Pacific were indeed harrowingly realistic. The most traumatic looked like the Battle for Iwo Jima. What a bloody and costly operation that was.

The problem with the Pacific was I found the characters to be very detached and unlikebale, unlike Band of Brothers, where I loved every single one of the men in Easy Company. Maybe this had something to do with the writing or the acting, maybe both. But the battle scenes were definitely up there.

Limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief: directly proportional to its awesomeness.

ha i fully agree.
BoB was better drama, and a better series overall.
that iwo jima battle dear lord...i saw and liked the clint eastwood version, even though thats pretty grit as well, after seeing the pacific version that suddenly seems reduced like an episode of the smurfs :)

The black and white cinematography was harrowing in context of the scenes. Many of violent scenes were realistic adding to the distressing nature of City of Life and Death.

Wel.... If this is a great movie? Okay. It is a great movie.

But, I don't think you can compare this to Saving Private Ryan. They are completely different context.

I think comparing this to Schindler's List or In Darkness will be a better choice.

Battle scene in the movie, is consider to be a path into the main plot.
