The FBI have jurisdiction outside the states?

What a load of *beep*

the fbi doesnt have jurisdiction outside of the states, but it is common that they cooperate with other governments if they want certain suspects. Most of this is hush hush business though.

The authority will be given to the CIA if FBI is interested in some suspects outside of USA. It's written both on FBI and CIA's website.

Though about that hush business - well, definitely it's happening in some serious cases.

wasn't this covered in "The Traitor"?

reply

its not a jurisdiction per se ... FBI protects US citizens in foreign countries. They dont act alone though, they cooperate with local authorities, they are most likely advisors and observers in that matter.

FBI has jurisdiction in the US,US territories, embassies, military bases, etc. And the US has embassies and bases in over 100 countries. Most countries will cooperate especially allies,NATO,Interpol countries, etc. FBI operates with mutual cooperation from other countries. The only places you probably can't find US in one form or another "officially" is Iran and North Korea. But if the government wanted to drag you from another country. They would have CIA SAD kidnap you.

The FBI doesn't have automatic jurisdiction outside of US, but jurisdiction IS granted under the terms of some treaties that US has.

For example, here in Romania, the FBI is granted automatic jurisdiction on any case that has prejudiced or victimized US citizens within the US and are considered federal crimes under US law. Their only obligation is to notify authorities before an arrest is made and to identify with local law enforcement as an investigation starts to prevent interference. However, under the terms of the treaty, in such cases the local authorities cannot deny the FBI jurisdiction over the case.

However, even before these treaties were made, the FBI did conduct many raids against romanian hackers on romanian territory, apprehending and then illegally extraditing them to the US (rendition). Especially during the late 90's, there were quite a few scandals around here regarding FBI people and rendition.

Just one of the many countless illogical premises

We're assuming here that the FBI like handing over cases to the CIA or other organisations/countries.
