Nuclear bomb

Surprise. The film is a flop. I think the American public is tiring of the endless preaching and moralizing about what a decrepit society we are relative to our history. We find ourselves in a time of incessant shaming and with expectations that we ought to be self-flagellating ourselves for all the wrongs "we" have done throughout our history. This is the message public schools and the colleges are constantly hammering into the collective psyche. Americans are getting weary of the badgering.

At what point can a nation heal and move on? It's been 76 years since the end of World War II. I believe the German people have been allowed to move on from their Nazi past. Not us. No wonder the US is still grappling with the race issue.

Heal and move on? You haven't been watching the news this week.Nothing's healed.

It's movies like FSOJ, 12 Years and Roots (and certain politicians) that keep the race pot boiling. These movies and others are based either on half-truth or no-truth. And the politicians stir the race pot as political strategy - it's intentional.

reply

True that. It's a fact that race relations is this country were better at any point right before Obama was elected. He has not been a uniter but rather a divider with his endless victimization and finger pointing. That guy's got a serious self-esteem problem and a warped sense of history. There are numerous black men (and at least one woman - Condoleeza Rice) that would have made a far better president than Obama. And, the US chose him???

If talking about something causes boiling then it is not healed and still requires discussion.

The idea of not talking about something as a means of making it go away is ridiculous. This is something generally practiced by small children.

If any issue is fully resolved, then there is no need to fear it or attempt to quell a discussion of it.

Deep wounds require deep medicine. Crawl out from under your bed or where ever else you hide from problems, and stop being such a pu$$y about it.

Which is why every time there's a WW2 movie, US and German relations go to *beep* oh... wait... no they don't.
It's as if Germans have no issue with everyone in the world using their country and them as stock villains.

But remind some "other folk" of their own racist and slaver history... or question just how much has changed... and some folk lose what little of their minds they have and start pointing fingers at people for "stirring the race pot".

You mean, your (leftist) version of the (beautiful) truth? So, as with everything else in American society, we decide the right way to go about correcting wrongs or deficiencies in our history is by going from one extreme to another? The left, who has been enjoying unprecedented influence over society since the 60s/70s, dictates their version of truth now. I guess you believe in self-flagellation. You go ahead. No more for me. It's time to move.

NO historian endorses the "Lost Cause". It should have died out long ago, just like racism should have.

It's promoted by Southern politicians trying to get votes from people whose prime motivation is resentment.

reply

The only thing LBJ was wrong about was when he told Bill Moyers that by signing the Civil Rights Act "the Democratic Party has lost the South for a generation". He seriously underestimated there.

reply

I have lived in the South for over 30 years. What politicians are promoting the lost cause? I think you make stuff up.

reply

What a load of garbage lol. Blacks have every opportunity that whites have in the US and more thanks to affirmative action and other programs. Black president but they're oppressed lol.

reply

They see this movie as countering the "lost cause mythology" but the movie itself is primarily myth.

I need constant reminders to hate myself because of my skin color, income, and lack of guilt for things I have nothing to do with, so social engineering films like this one are just what I'm looking for.

Oh noes! You held up a mirror to show society how horrible it is! I'm helpless against rhetorical judo!

reply

The movie was specially crafted for SJWs. They are about the only ones giving it rave reviews. Even so, less than 1% of the American public saw the stinker.

rfa77,
No nation can heal or move forward without acknowledging it's ugly past. Germany has been successful in this endeavor, and the USA would benefit greatly from admitting it's genocidal origin. Simply claiming that history was the responsibility of those who came before falls far short. It's up to the prodjeny to recognize their country's shameful past and vow never to tolerate it's repetition in order to move forward successfully.

"God bless America" is still a coded way of saying "we're better than everyone else". To quote Tiny Tim, "God bless us, EVERYONE!". Now that's good karma!

I think 200,000 mostly white men that died to end slavery is enough payment...we dont need a guilt trip that right now is destroying germany, their so guilty their letting in a million muslums that only want to kill them

Very big of you to remain so 'open-minded'. Your comment about Muslims reveals your world view. Ever traveled outside the US? Do you personally know any non-whites or non-Christians? Expand your consciousness, it won't hurt nearly as much as your supremacy.

reply

This movie simply isn't very good. That's why it bombed. No deeper analysis required.

The subject is important & really quite interesting, but the bloody thing dragged on & on, and was over-the-top preachy.

I had to force myself to finish it, and only managed with the help of my trusty FF button.

As if anyone is proud of slavery. Over 90% of African slaves went to South And Central America, but nobody says boo about it because it runs against the marxist narrative. Nuance is when a marxist embraces the hypocritical contradictions of their most deeply held beliefs.

oldpunkwebzine,

"Boo!" THERE, I said it!

No one is proud of slavery, yet you divert responsibility by placing the blame squarely on others. Very big(ot) of you. How enlightened. What's this about nuance?

As Marx himself said, "politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies".
