Free State of Jones but no big budget Nat Turner film?

Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman et al. are all white saviors too. Hope you're boycotting them.
Nate Parker's a B list actor who had never directed before. Why would a studio give him $65 million to make a movie? It took Gary Ross (who has been nominated 4 times for an Oscar) 10 years to get funding. And he only got that after he directed a blockbuster - Hunger Games.
Though Birth of a Nation debuted at Sundance during the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and received a lot of critical support from critics who wanted to show they were on the right side of the controversy, it's only rated 77 on Metacritic. We're not talking Citizen Kane here.
Actually the reason Nate parkers film has such a low rating on IMDb and meta critic is because racist trolls have been giving low scores, don't believe the damn film hasn't even been released to general public yet. Do you that anybody on an IMDb message board was invited to Cannes
shareIMDb trolls are always *beep* They did the same thing with Boyhood for some reason. It had only been shown in Berlin but it had 100s of '1' ratings.
The metacritic rating is only for recognized film critics though, trolls can't affect it.
One interesting thing I found out: Free State of Jones completed principal photography in May 2015 and Birth of a Nation started shooting that month. It is probable that FSoJ gave a little inspiration there and helped with financing BoaN.

Danny Glover has been trying to get funding for years more than that. If it wasn't for 'angel' backers outside of the usual studio system, Steve McQueen wouldn't have gotten 12 Years A Slave made. Stop trying to make it seem the odds aren't aren't extremely stacked against minority film makers and casts.
