OH America!

The biggest blight on american history is treatment of the indigenous peoples and then the slavery and treatment of blacks. I find it so hard to watch these kind of films, especially since we are seeing a revival of this underbelly of society. I just don't get it. How can colour of someone's skin be used as a means to commit such atrocities? For money, position, power. Their form of terrorism is just so sickening to me. If I could go back in history and use a wand to wipe these sorry a**ses off the planet, it would be very hard for me not to do it. How to show mercy in the face of such egregious behaviour ... it confounds me.

Now to the film. Free State of Jones is a great piece of history but I feel the film suffered from bad editing. It could have been shortened immensely or, as another poster suggested, made into a tv miniseries instead. Otherwise, I think Mahershala Ali, McConnaughey, and all the other actors did a great acting job.

If you think there is some revival or racism in America you should reevaluate what you watch/read for news. America is less racist/sexist/oppressive than it has ever been and considering we are a true melting pot unlike pretty much any other country, there are going to be issued. But America continues to move in the right direction, unfortunately for some reason people don't want to see that

I agree this could and should have been a mini series.

A person has to be a special kind of idiot to hate somebody for what amounts to the degree of melanin they have in their pigmentation. May as well start persecuting people for their eye colour.

So much content it is very hard to fit that into a film which is trying to appeal mostly to Americans (Who are known for not paying attention or moaning if films are 2hr 30+)

Other have said it before and I agree it should of been a mini series 4-6 episodes.

If you was to look up the history not what most Americans are told is the truth it was black Africans selling there own people to western slavers you hardly ever hear about this.

It's a disgrace how long it has taken US to stop slavery and even how long black people still being treated badly.

The lies about the war being to free slaves as well this is still taught in US schools the same with other holidays they are not tellign the truth about wiping out natives etc.
