The best lines ever written in the history of cinema...

This is one of the best lines ever delivered to an actor...the delivery was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

JONES: Are you a free man?
MOSES: Yes
JONES: Why are you a free man?
MOSES: Because you cannot own a child of God.

Well done cast!

And the most relevant line was when Moses was offended that Newt wanted to accompany him to get his son back.

Newt: they'll arrest me but they'll kill you.

And they still do.

For me the best line in the movie was when Ward forbids Moses from taking some more hog meat and Newton diplomatically explains to him what Moses meant in his retort:

Ward: What are you doin’, *beep* That ain’t for you. Put it back. Put it back, *beep*
Moses: How you ain’t?
Ward: What?
Moses: I said, how you ain’t?
Ward: How I ain’t what?
Newt: What he says, Ward, is how you ain’t a *beep* I mean, they just pick cotton for ‘em. You—You was willin’ to get killed for ‘em.

Speaks so much truth even today that most naive folk are used like little more than cattle to do the dirty work of the oligarchs and plutocrats all for so much "filthy lucre."
