When Elizabeth called the OB the 'C' word...

All the women in my theatre (2 or 3 women in their forties - it was pretty empty) gasped in horror. Any other good reactions?

reply

mine too.

but, on the other hand, i wonder how many doctors will "presume" that the pregnant woman would want an abortion (or not), no matter how well they know the patient. the doctor will almost ALWAYS ask her what she wants to do first.

That sequence doesn't make much sense to me.

reply

The two had a bit of a history, the doctor was being unprofessional, and made the assumption she wanted to abort the baby.

... and yes, the audience did indeed gasp at the 'c' word, it was so unexpected.

If Sandra Bullock can win an Oscar for 'The Blind Side' then ... ANYTHING ... is possible!

It didn't make sense to me either. I do agree that the doctor was unprofessional. Sheesh - she picks the moment that she's about to give a pelvic exam to say, "I DO know you...."?

The Dr was a *beep*

When Elizabeth told the doctor she had her tubes tied at 17 years old, she made an assumption that she wouldn't ever want to be pregnant. So, I understand WHY the doctor said what she said, but it was highly unprofessional. Then she just walks out of there with no emotional response.

I think the "c" word was unnecessary; however, by saying it Elizabeth displayed the real anger she was feeling.

reply

All the scenes amongst professionally educated women were poorly done. None of that would have happened nor would the male doctor put up with her mouthing off about delivering her baby her way. He would not take that kind of risk.

You assume that all doctors are professional in their conduct. This is simply not reality.

reply

She was a total *beep* as well as the others. HATED all of them.

reply

LOL, why do people overreact to the 'C' word so much?

I am not revealing my name to protect the innocent.

A lot of people call other people terrible names when they are really the name they call other people. Naomi Watts was the whore in the movie, the slut, the *beep* A white woman sleeping with a black man, that is so disgusting. I didn't really have a problem with Lucy a black woman sleeping with her husband who was also black and I don't have a problem with black people.

reply

A white woman sleeping with a black man disgusting? You are a racist. You just haven't realized it yet. Grow up idiot! This is not the 1800s anymore.

reply

I totally agree with this, who says that?! You are in the closet lady, get over yourself.

let the games begin!

reply

Robert, where do you come off calling a poster a rascist and idiot for expressing their opinion?
I, myself, feel the movie makers had an agenda in teaming a latino with a caucasian, and a negro with an woman of English origins. It was far too obvious and detracted from the supposed theme of mother's love.

Robert was right, and you are just as bad if you seem to agree with the other poster and object to Robert's correction. Now you bring up Latino and Caucasian. Why do you feel there was an agenda? Actually, the writer's name is Rodrigo Garcia, so maybe he felt it was in order to overlook race - that is, making a film with only white people which apparently you and the other poster may have been happy with. He included other races and I think that was not only a brave move, but a welcome one to see people of color involved in such a wonderful movie. Kudos to the the writer.

This is my signature and I'm sticking to it. lol

You do have a problem with black people if you had a problem with a white woman sleeping with a black man, AND you dared to call it disgusting. So stop hiding behind non-racism. You are racist. Black and white have been sleeping together for ages. If they didn't, we wouldn't have Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Rashida Jones and so many other talented and wonderful actors and artistes. Get over it.

The people reprimanding Carebearlover for the racism are dead right. I was shaking my head in amazement when the poster wrote that s/he
didn't really have a problem with a black woman sleeping with her husband who was also black..
Anyway, I'm so glad that, apart from this one minor point regarding interracial sex, everything is cool between carebearlover and the black community.😌

Re the 'c' word:
I saw the movie dubbed in German, and the word used by Elizabeth was 'Kuh' (cow). I'm guessing that wasn't the 'c' word people are getting worked up about. Interesting, because the Germans have their own perfectly good equivalent for the *beep* invective.

reply

I had to go back and re-read my comment. I had written this since in 2013! lol. Anyway, thanks for your comments.

The ability to always see the worst in people and situations is often a hiding place for fear.

reply

It didn't surprise me because she was in a rage, being she cleared the desk. It kind of made me smile actually, I thought the Dr. pretty much told her what she should do without any real basis to support that opinion. She was arrogant and got told.

reply

That word is used regularly in a OB/GYN's office. They even have pictures of them in the magazines.

Did you notice the face of the doctor as seemed please to announce what she thinks was a bad new?
Thats one of the motifs for the "c" word.
