watts' performance was the best part of the film. seriously underrated, as far as award worthy performances go.

Other great movies with an outstanding performance by naomi was The Painted Veil and Eastern Promises. She never disappoints.. I did not like Kerry Washington for this part nor did I like the person she was playing. I believe she was totally wrong for this support. She has that cicely tyson look. Maybe needs teeth straightening, her look is distracting.

lindugh, you have a serious problem. To praise Ms Watts, you have to pull down both Kerry Washington and Cicely Tyson? Cicely Tyson is one of the best black actresses to appear on screen and on television, and Kerry Washington has been receiving great aplomb for her acting roles, namely more recently as the lead in the tv series Scandal, as well as the recent film, Django Unchained. She has received nominations, and recently won awards and was awarded a major life award. Yet all you could talk about is her teeth?
Have you ever seen Steve Buscemi? He is the lead star of Boardwalk Empire. He has crooked teeth. He's a fine actor. I bet you never heard anyone criticising his teeth. He's up there for his acting, not his physical looks. You would do well to stop focusing on outward appearances and more on the skill and talent of the actor or actress, unless maybe you are perfection personified without a flaw in your physical outlook. Your assessment is atrocious.

I totally agree LOL I've always said that Naomi Watts is one of the best actresses of her generation and if Meryl streep had pl<yed this role i'm sure she would have been nominates for an oscar.
shareWatts did everything right, but I still think the role of serenely controlling woman is easier to play than Bening's PTSD sufferer and intimacy dysfunctional. No one does stunned/aghast/speechless better than Bening (remember Virginia Hill at the end of Bugsy). She was mesmerising.
