Why did Elizabeth insist on seeing the baby born
Did she want to see if the baby was Paul's or the neighbor's? Or just a mother thing and she already knew the baby was Paul's?

shareWhat mother would not want to see her baby?
Seeing that it was a black baby convinced the audience that this film was going the way it was intended (how else could all storylines have come together if it had not been black, assuming the black couple wanted only a black baby) but for her it was only normal, in my humble opinion.
She was also a control freak, hence her insisting on doing the delivery her way. Insisting she would labor and then when that fell through she wanted to be awake (which is understandable) rather than be knocked out for the section.
shareIt was because she needed to see a human being who was a part of her.
shareFrom an adoptee's perspective I think it's as simple as wanting to meet someone that you're related to for the first time in your life.
shareyewforest, I'm also a fellow adoptee and that was exactly what I was thinking. I think she wanted to, simply to meet someone biologically related to her, especially since she knew she could die and she didn't have the chance to meet her mother before that time. Obviously, this also served to inform the audience of the paternity of the baby.
shareWhat I don't get is what moron thinks you will be knocked out during a c-section? Those are performed every day in this country and they give you medication so you don't feel anything but you are awake the whole time. Sheesh don't any of you on here have babies anymore?
by solesister "get thee to a nunnery!"
you are kidding right?
why must everyone be so mean to each other?
irrelevant of whether that info should be common knowledge.
can you imagine there are topics discussed here or elsewhere that you would have no knowledge?
i think people act this way online because they are insecure about their own knowledge and can do so anonymously. if each person had to answer these face to face, i believe it would be much different.
furthermore, i have an 8-year college education, 2 kids (born naturally) and
did not, and would not have any reason to know how a C-section is performed.
i wish each person on these and other online boards would grow up and treat others as they would like to be treated.
Ha! In the same comment where you argue that you aren't a moron, you unwittingly reveal that it took you twice as long to complete college as it does the average person!
shareWoops, I thought C-sections were major surgery and required being doped up alot. I do know though that you don't 'feel' the baby coming out, which is what Elizabeth might have wanted, she wasn't afraid of the pain, far from it.
She wanted a natural birth cause she wanted to be as consciously aware and participant as possible to the birth of her child, even if it was more risky than a c-section.
Practically all mothers want to see their kids, asap. The nurses though usually are insistent or quick enough to give the child a wash before presenting it to the mother. Since the mother in this case was a strong willed woman, she got to see the baby as soon as it came out.
Yes it is major surgery. My hairdresser was telling me that she watched her friend have one, and apparently things happen during the procedure that I really don't want to know about. Let's just say things need to be moved out of the way apparently to make room.
shareShe knew she was at risk at this point. Therefore, she knew that the doctor may want to put her under anethesia (not just the normal local used for a straight c-section) in order save her life, too.
>>> What I don't get is what moron thinks you will be knocked out during a c-section?
I guess that in your eyes I'm a moron, since I didn't know whether mothers are knocked out for c-sections or not. I wonder what percentage of the population are morons in your eyes. I wonder if you measure up to the same standards you seem to hold others to, or whether you too would fail the moron test in many fields.
It should be against the law to use "LOL" unless you really did LOL!
I agree with the other posters that she wanted to see the baby for it was the only person that was related to her. Yet, her controlling ways is what eventually was her demise. I felt empathy for the character because she had so much to overcome. I think she absolutely knew who the father was.
