so upset with this movie

having read all 12-13 books and the 1st one being the best by far, this movie was sad to see. nothing was the same as the book. nothing. instead of a creepy, intense movie it was some action paced, dragon flying, ninja.... god wtf were they thinking.....

Agreed, it's like they were excluding the fans to the books when they made this movie. I was so looking forward to 'y favourite book series to have a movie and it's just so disappointing.

That sucks but as someone who has never read any of the books, I enjoyed the movie.

I had to deal with the movie 'Blood and Chocolate' being very different from the book (my favorite book of all time) and I eventually just accepted the movie for what it is; it's not totally faithful but at least it's well made and decent for what it is.

At least Seventh Son is a well made movie when it comes to its budget, pacing, action, fantasy elements, cinematography, costumes etc..

This is going to sound strange but I do not read fiction books unless I have already seen and enjoyed a movie based on it. I find that books are always better than a movie therefore I don't have to worry about being disappointed by a movie that has less depth, characterization, suspense etc.

People that are really into a book have to go into a movie with the understanding that movies often make huge changes to the story and tone of a book. People should not be surprised or disappointed when it happens. Movies are a very different medium than books.

I know that you shouldn't expect a film based in your favorite fantasy novels to be exactly like you imagined while reading it.

But I have never seen a film so different than the source material (well, I'm exaggerating, maybe World War Z fans would contradict me). It's laughable how different from the books this movie is. But I saw it BEFORE reading the books so I found the film OK. I enjoyed it actually :), it doesn't deserve such a low IMDB score.

I didn't like the books, but it's a shame that they deviated so much from the source material. It must be really let down for the fans.

Couldn't agree more, I love the wardstone chronicles and have read nearly all the books, when I saw this film and its trailers I was sorely disappointed, for one thing mother malign was all wrong secondly there are no dragons and thirdly Tusk is supposed to be evil too. Even Tom's mam was wrong, it was an epic failure for book fans.

reply

I totally agree. I drove my wife mad by constantly pointing out the flaws in this movie.

There is no way the script writer read the book because apart from the character names nothing else is remotely like the book.

Such a shame as the books are an excellent read and done properly the film would have been immense, sigh!!

If the film was remade by a director that knows the books, do you think it could be any better than this poor attempt that had been made?

reply

I became aware of the first book because Tim Burton was due to direct. After the job he did with sleepy hollow i always felt he would have made a great job of adapting the book.

When Hollywood came knocking on the door of JK Rowling she insisted on keeping the film British with as many homegrown actors as possible, she had the clout to insist on this.Unfortunately Joseph Delaney does not.

So yes if a director chose to stick with the source material and keep as closely to the book as possible i feel the end result would be epic.

I started a thread asking if a tv series in the vain of Salem would work better,i think it would.

I started reading the books a few years ago starting when I was at college, I must say the cover was catchy and it was a great read so when the trailer for the film came out I was annoyed because it had loads of spoilers telling what the film was like. I was hoping for another franchise like Harry potter or James bond to be made not shambles of a production that hit the cinemas. ID like Ridley Scott or Tim burton to make em, that would be cool.
