Haven't seen it yet, but isn't this film racist?


Why would they use the word "spook"? I'm almost 100% positive that a lot of people would be offended by this.

Words do have different meanings. It means ghost or apparition. The slang term to which you're referring isn't in context in this usage. But they did in fact change the film's title from the book's.

I understand what you're saying. I know it also means ghosts too, but I still say many people might end up being offended by the use of the term because it has a lot of negative connotation. I just feel like they should've changed the word to something else in my opinion.

Nah, not racist at all. In the movie, spook refers to a witch hunter... a strong, intelligent, brave individual. MAYBE if it was using the term in some derogatory way, but it's not.

In England it means a) ghost or b) secret service person or c) no, there is no other meaning in England. And I believe this was an English book originally.

Yes. All the black people were underlings to superior white people, and one even walked on all fours in an incredible gesture of subservience.
