Personally, I don't understand why Michelle Williams' dad got so upset over the quality of the dinner in that one scene where it's mad awkward and his wife asks him if he wants her to make him some eggs and he says, "I want you to enjoy your God *beep* dinner!" and then throws his slice of meatloaf back onto the serving plate. I thought the meatloaf looked *beep* delicious.

A lot of times its about control and they usually behave like idiots because they know they can, so perhaps he didn't actually find the dinnner that disgusting but just wanted a reason to berate his wife again so that he could feel like a 'man' for a few minutes!
I seriously hope her mother divorced him in the end, dunno why they chose to leave us guessing about whether she did or if she died on him instead.
