This movie came out at the right time

I saw this in the movies. I, of course, like many of my American citizens was strapped for cash during the recession and economic crisis at the end of the 2000s. I started my job in 2007 and by 2009 I went from 43 hours a week to 23. I was married but we had no kids. My wife also got laid off and was looking for work herself. We were VERY unwilling to spend our money on anything other than bills and food starting in September 2008, it put everything in perspective. We were AFRAID.

We all went to my friend Kevin's house to see Monday Night RAW and they played a commercial for the Hangover, each and every time we saw the commercial we said, you know that actually looks good. I think the last movie that we saw in the movies was the Dark Knight prior to the Hangover, and we were always movie goers. I finally said "I wanna see that but I don't want to spend any $" and she's like well it looks very good and I still kept saying no. She went on an interview one Monday and she was confident she was gonna get the job, and they called back and it was a no. She was so upset but I said, hey lets go see that Hangover movie.

I'll never forget being back in the movie theater that day, it felt right. I could hear other people talking about the struggles and how much credit card debt they had at the time from no work. As soon as the movie started, everyone forgot that and everyone was laughing crazy. Idk about anyone else but at that time finally laughing after so much misery, tension, and selfish boredom made this movie what it was to me.

Wow, what a great story. Certain movies mean certain things to me as well, as they pinpoint a time in your life. I too associate movies to certain periods in my life as well. Just reading your post and others like it all over the message board is what brings me to IMDB... The message boards! I sure am gonna miss coming home from work, getting a late night snack and sitting down to read messages like this about movies I love. It's a damn shame they're scrapping the whole thing :(

Wonderful post.

One movie that has this same effect on me is “Watchmen,” which also came out in 2009 (the heart of the recession). That movie conjures my memories and feelings during that very difficult time.

Hard to believe that we’re approaching the 10-year mark!

What makes a movie great is if it allows you to escape reality for a couple hours and laugh, cry, etc. Movies allow people to escape or provide a distraction from problems.
