Worth watching the fifth season?

I just finished the amazing fourth season last night. Clearly the fifth season is a continuation of season 4 episode 19. Is it worth it to watch the fifth season? Or would it be better to leave the story where it ended at the end of season 4?

Even though season 5 is different from the earlier seasons, it's worth a watch. The series finale had me tear up in a few scenes.

Just finished binging Fringe and although I really enjoyed the first four seasons I really wished I hadn't watched season 5. It's not Fringe.. more like sime weird mashup of Defiance and The Matrix...Big letdown for me

Season 5 does seem out of place from the earlier seasons.

Season 5 is definitely my least favorite season. Despite its short length, it STILL has episodes that I consider to be filler. The writers also made what I consider to be an aggressively stupid choice with a late season retcon. However, there are still things worth watching. I liked Etta very much. There is an interesting but too short mini arc involving Peter and the finale provides a definite wrap up that is suitably "Fringey."

Thank you for your responses. I just finished watching the fifth season and wanted to report to anyone else who was unsure about watching it that I enjoyed it and I'm happy I watched it. It started off a bit rocky, but after a couple episodes it really drew me in, and it ultimately seemed a fitting and interesting end to the series. And now I'm sad because it's over ?

Also, if you just watch through the fourth, you get a good ending but you never get resolution with the Observer plot line. I like the way they tied everything together in the end.

Glad you enjoyed the last season of Fringe.

Well this is like a second movie and not a continuation as such but it does answer a lot of things. In that sence it is worth watching. Like I wanted to know who the boy was who could not speak who lived in the basement without any doors. But overall the series is pretty much over with the 4th season.

It's an amazing end to a very perfect series so....uh, yeah?

Edit: You made a good decision.

It doesn't surprise me that some viewers couldn't handle the complexities of the AMAZING season 5. It was a bit too much for the reality tv generation.

reply

I am in my late 40's so I am not part of the "reality TV generation" and I did not like Season 5. It was a generic story where the heroes are "underground" going against a dictator like government. That is the story of so many sci-fi shows and it bores me because I have seen it before.

Perhaps if you didn't oversimplify season 5 you would've enjoyed it more. The storylines for the Fringe team (particularly Peter and Walter), the alternative universe, and the observers tied up together incredibly well. The ending was bitter sweet and arguably the best sci-fi ending I've seen since Cowboy Bebop.

I did not oversimplify the season. They are supposed to be fugitives but they are not written that way. THAT bothers me.

The good far outweighed the bad in season 5. It was a marked improvement from the back-and-forth between Fringe universes. It was the great ending Fringe deserved. My only regret is the reduced number of episodes due to the show's poor ratings.

Season 5 is nice but it has nothing to do with the other seasons, it's dark, they loosed their daughter, lack of fun, some characters who made the show complete are missing or rarely showed like agent Broyles and the alternate characters. Even Walter loosed his fun side, only in the end when he finally retrieved his memories about Peter he had a moment of ''real cool'' Walter but they could and they should have done this in season 4.
So in the end they should have made season 5 a continuation of the fight against Bell and keep the same cool, fun and crazy scientific spirit of the series instead of the dark and heavy environment of the war against the observers.
